Great pics Bro !! Very nice to see a bit of the ' inside' ..... Some of the drivers do look like ' kids' once dressed as civilians. It suddenly puts into perspective the pressure they have on their so young and I m sure often immature shoulders.

So expecting teams to adhere to clearly defined rules of the sport is now "hypocrisy"?

    An interesting attitude.

I hope that the court takes that statement into consideration when it reviews this case and has to decide if any further punishment of the Ferrari team is called for.

Re: 2010 German F1 Grand Prix at Hockenheim

Bernie Ecclestone has spoken out in favour of team orders after Ferrari was fined by the stewards at the German Grand Prix for ordering Felipe Massa to let Fernando Alonso pass.

The team took a huge amount of flak from the press for its actions, but whether a ban on team orders should exist in Formula One was also called into question.

When asked if he thought the ban should be lifted, Ecclestone told the Metro: "I must confess I would agree with anyone who thinks that. I believe what people do when they are inside the team, and how they run their team, is up to them."

Asked whether the rules would be changed by the FIA World Motor Sport Council on which he sits, Ecclestone said: "I don't know, we'll have to see. It's something that needs to be discussed. As far as I'm concerned a team is a team, and they should run it whichever way they want to run it."

Ex-Red Bull driver David Coulthard agrees with Ecclestone and said that all the outrage was based on a misunderstanding of how Formula One works.

"Team orders happen in F1," he said in his column in the Daily Telegraph. "They always have and they always will. Just because Ferrari were ham-fisted in breaking the rules, does it make their transgression any worse? I cannot believe some of the hypocrisy we've heard in the past couple of days.

"The only way to stop team orders would be to race with one car. As long as there are two (and some teams want three -- how difficult would it be then to control team orders?) the rule is unenforceable.

"Team principals should be allowed to do the best they can for their team, for their employees, for their owners. That is what they always used to do. At some point during the past 60 years we seem to have lost sight of that fact. The public furore is based on a fundamental misunderstanding, which is that Formula One is about the individual."

He is right in stating that those teamorders will have happened in the past and in other teams as well, still that does not enable Ferrari to order a change in position in such an obvious way.

John, the same thing that happened when Hamilton won his World Championship by one point after Kovalainen recieved team orders to give up his position to Hamilton in one of the races, or the same thing that would happen if Hamilton wins this year's championship by 5 points after the "save fuel put call" incident with Button, why should this be any different?  Smiley

    John H:

Would be bad...but don´t worry. Look at Teflonsos track record this year:

...jump start in China, crash in free practice in Monaco, no courage in Montreal, cut the track in Silverstone, no pace and spin in rain in Spa.   Any questions!?

You can buy our Raikkonnen, you can buy Ferraris team chef to demoralise Massa, now you can even buy a team order...though you cannot buy speed, car control at limit, pace, instict...

Alonso is a great teamleader and speaker, no doubt. Although it looks that he didn´t developed over the last 2 years. You can argue 2008/2009 was just Renault. So there is no excuse for 2010. I.e. Spa was a big point race and Massa showed partially what would be possible. A double worldchampion should find the extra pace within such a race.

Which part of the "team order not allowed" rule fails to register with people is beyond MY comprehension.

I'm not against team order in principle, but as long as it is forbidden by the rules, it should be enforced for everyone.

Re: 2010 German F1 Grand Prix at Hockenheim

The problem is with "enforced for everyone",

    (1) its a rule that cannot be really enforced because teams can apply team rules in many different ways (pit stop strategy, secret codes over the radio, allocation of different car parts and packages, fuel tactics, etc, etc, etc) and the FIA cannot prove it was a team order suffiently clear to issue a penalty, so basically the only thing that enforcing that rule does is reward those that are able to lie, deceive and hide the team orders better than the others... hardly in favor of the sport.

    (2) enforcing such a subjective rule turns it into yet another influencing tool in the hands of the F1-FIA who are anything but objective and independent as we have seen this year... again hardly in favor of the sport.

So its neither truly enforced in real life since it happens in every GP, nor is it enforced the same for everyone. The rule needs to go.

I agree the rule has to go...but credit must be given to Rob Smedley for his honest and emotional instruction to Massa.  He must have known he'd be in trouble, but still refused to use 'coded messages'  They make a great team..Smiley
