    458 Italia EVO test

From October 2010 issue of EVO.

    0-60mph    3.2s

    0-100mph  6.8s

    0-130mph 11.0s

    0-160mph 17.5s

    1/4 mile 11.2s/128.8mph

    1546kg

    Bedford track 1.20,3min

Test impressions are very positive indeed.

BTW, this is the second test(after German AMS) that confirmes that 458 is faster at high speed then 997.2 Turbo S.

EVO 997.2 Turbo S results for comparison.

    0-60mph     2.9s

    0-100mph   6.8s

    0-130mph  11.5s

    0-160mph  19.3s

    1/4 mile 11.0s/127.2mph

    Bedford 1.23,5min

    No surprise whatsoever...

Kreso what was the TTS weight? Thanks.

Ferrari has more power,no AWD and maybe less weight.  Both really fast cars indeed.

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

So in Kreso's post, the car from EVO was weighing 1.546 kg. The one from the EVO-video tipped the scales at 1.529 kg. It had the sport rims and racing buckets, which should be the main weight saver. Anybody knows how much exacactly you will save with those seats and rims?

    Stefan,

Belive it or not 458 with standard wheels and seats weights almost 1595kgsSmileySmiley!!

When you order all CF(exterior and interior) items, sport wheels and bucket seats you can have Sport Auto claimed 1540kgs(with full tank).

Do you know German price for example that I specd(all CF items)? 260K € with Mwst... No way!

I know, Kreso, I know. In fact the 458 is NOT lighter than a Turbo.

That's not a problem in my eyes, but what really IS a problem is Ferrari's official weight claim for the car (1.485 kg kerb weight). Smiley

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

The forged wheels are 2Kgs per wheel lighter. Autocar have weighed the UK press test car at 1535Kgs fully fueled. It has the sports wheels and race seats.

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

Only 1 sec difference on Nurburgring between Scuderia and 458... One second out of 7 minutes and 39 seconds... Pretty real road conditions... And a MUCH more efficient drivetrain (gearbox, e-diff, etc) + 60 extra ponies... Well, YES, 458 it's on the piggy side Smiley

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

The 458, in contrast to the Scuderia, has normal tyres Pentium. A semi-slick shod 458 would be A LOT quicker...

Also, Evo managed a 1.5 sec difference on a normal track like the Beddford Autodrome.

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

This has been discuss before around here and as far as I remember the tires are the same... But even so, the 458 is too heavy. When I bought the Scud, I bought a car that was much better than the current 911 Turbo. This time I would buy a Turbo S instead of a 458 without any hesitation.

IMO the Scud is a sport car and the 458 a GT.

And frankly for 220K-260K euros (458 + options) I rather get the McLaren. But not in the first two years of production.

Found the post... MKGSR is the user, I quote:

    Pentium:

Similar to Scuderia indeed. Enough said.

458 on normal tires. Scuderia on sport tires.

458 on sport tires would be considerably quicker.

Not quite - the Michelins on the 458 are apparently close to Cups in terms of dry performance (SportAuto says so + the wet handling times are that worse that I tend to believe the comment on tyres in the text) Smiley

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

The fact that the 458 is a quickier than the Scuderia in most circuits show otherwise dear Pentium.

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

Just to say this-with soon-to-be-ready Pirelli Trofeos(in 458 size) 458 is faster on the Ring then 997.1 GT2 or CGT(Sport Auto times). I guess that means fast enough...

Just look at Doettinger Hoehe top speed in Sport Auto Supertest-295km/h... 458 is clearly an excellent sportscar.

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

not sure what that means since equally 997.1 GT2 and CGT with Trofeos (if they come at relevant sizes of course) would smoke the italia, right? Shouldnt we compare apples to apples Kreso?

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

The GT2 already has semi slick Michelins Cup+ that are comparable to Pirelli Trofeo Corsas GT... The Carrera GT is a hypercar and is an honour for any supercar to be compared to a hypercar.

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

according to what I hear the italia factory michelin tires are similar to existing R compounts (ie MSC or Corsas). The trofeos are a step ahead than those for dry handling..

So comparisons should be between at least similar compounds or "type" of tires. Everyone here that has some track day experience knows what a dramatic difference different types of tires can make in a lap time.

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

I totally agree that comparissons should be made only between equally shod cars. Then again we don't know the exact compound of each tyre and the only meaningful comparisson would be between cars with exactly the same tyres. At any rate though, the Michelins of the Italia are way too road oriented (even their tread is far less aggressive than that of the semis) to be compared to Cup+ tyres.

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

I like both Ferrari and Porsche cars but I am not willing to praise them blindly.

458 is faster, no doubt but not by much IMO. And I am disappointed with this car. That's all.

The mid engine Ferrari was supposed to be a raw sport car not a big fat GT.

Markus, I mean marginally(about 1s or 2s in best case scenario-best possible conditions) faster. Look at Doettinger Hoehe 458 top speed-car is clearly as powerfull as Ferrari claim and IMHO capable for very good Ring time with Cup like tires.

BUT, same could be said for SLS AMG...

For all of you which are 997.2 Turbo S-this car is barely faster on the Ring then R8 V10. Equiped with CUP+ tires... Rumor is 7.43min Ring time. If true(my source from Motorpresse) that means that despite excellent straight line speed and every day usablility 997.2 Turbo S is in overall drive dynamics not up zo level of SLS AMG or 458 Italia...

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

at bedford with production tires the 997.2Turbo S was i think over a  sec faster than the SLS.. SLS was all over the place there. That is a huge difference. Not sure i can believe that in the ring the SLS is faster than turbo S especially since are so many straights involved..

    Who posted the 458/Trofeo time?

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

Ferdie, it is info from Ferrari. Yes, we need to look at it with special glasses... BUT, 458 is fast.

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

    Some interesting observations...

In the recent 1km standing start challenge by Autocar,

    Turbo S did 0-163.2mph in 20.05 sec

458 did 0-163.9mph in 20.33 sec, so neck to neck

The 458 at the 1km challenge is a bit slower than the 0-160mph of 17.5 sec achieved by EVO

    Re: 458 Italia EVO test

Porsche better start then 458 but above 130mph

Gt2 reached in Sa supertest 2007 293 km/h at Döttinger Höhe so the 458 Performance is not that Great 3 years later i think. Sls had something around 280 at this point
