That the PDK, as boring as it is around town , provides an overwhelming acceleration advantage is now old news; the PDK Turbo will kill just about any other car on the road. What would pique my interest is a test that eliminates the PDK variable, meaning 997.1 manual versus 997.2 manual.
I don't follow this type of information so really don't know. For the speed and acceleration experts of this forum:
1. What trustworthy acceleration tests have been done with 997.2 manual, and what does it show in comparison to 997.1 manual?
2. 'ring time is rumored to be 10 second faster with 997.2 PDK vs. 997.1 manual. Has there been a test of 997.2 manual?
I like the way you put that: "eliminate the PDK variable".
Nobody's denying the PDK's efficiency and quality. But just how satisfying are these types of transmission over the long run? To me, the PDK's still an auto box. After 10 minutes of playing around with it, you end up putting it in Drive and leaving it there. That means you don't get the tactile pleasure that only a manual can give.
The only paddle-shifter box that I've ever tried that was more exciting to drive than a manual was Ferrari's pre-458-dual-clutch F1 automated manual. The gear-changes on those things (Modena and even more so F430) are incredibly satisfying. Too bad those boxes eat through clutches so quickly.
