    Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG (2011)

    Increased performance and torque, reduced fuel consumption and exhaust emissions - these qualities are perfectly united in the new Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG's 5.5-liter biturbo engine. Mercedes-AMG is confronting the challenges of the future, and demonstrating that dynamic performance can be perfectly combined with fuel economy. The result: a maximum output (with the optional AMG Performance Package) of up to 563 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.

    The new AMG 5.5-liter biturbo engine combines performance, innovation and efficiency to a previously unknown extent. This is made possible by a unique combination of innovative high-tech systems such as direct gasoline injection, twin turbochargers, air/water intercooling and the Controlled Efficiency stop/start function.

    Mercedes-AMG is systematically following the trend towards increasing efficiency: with a displacement of 5461 cc it is precisely 747 cc below the 6208 cc of the naturally aspirated AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine. Nevertheless, it develops more output and torque. The 2011 CL63 AMG develops a peak output of 536 hp and maximum torque of 590 lb-ft. In conjunction with the AMG Performance Package these figures increase to 563 hp and 664 lb-ft. The torque curve in particular shows that no other engine in this power class is able to match the figures delivered by the new AMG biturbo motor.

    Despite an increase in horsepower and torque as compared to the naturally aspirated V8, AMG engineers have been able to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions considerably. With an estimated fuel savings of 27 percent, engine specialists consider this to be nothing less than a quantum leap. CO2 emissions have likewise been significantly reduced by approximately 30.

    These improvements in efficiency and environmental protection have no negative effects on the car's performance. On the contrary, as the new AMG 5.5-liter V8 biturbo fully lives-up to AMG's brand commitment to "performance": the Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG accelerates from zero to 60mph in 4.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 155 mph (electronically limited). With the AMG Performance package, the highperformance Coupé reaches the 60 mph mark in 4.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 186 mph (electronically limited).

     Kind of not related but: Friday night i met a girl and later on the night offered to walk her to her car, the valet pulls up on one of these (but 2009) black with black leather, she was driving it !! needles to say she went up 2 points immediately. She later confessed it was her mothers, but nevertheless, hot !

    About the car: I'm sure it has a great engine, but once again the AMG goodies at the exterior are over the top IMO.
    And from the rear it looks like a Rover...

    Yes, for looks (and maybe engine/exhaust sound too), I would prefer the Bentley GT but from a performance point of view, the CL63 AMG is surely a very interesting product.

    I would however never drive such a car...unless I'm 65 or so...

    I don't like the CL concept either...

    If you want a GT Merc - go buy the SL...

    If you want more specious car - there is the S-class.

    If you want low weight in a Merc and space for four - CLS is the better alternative, IMO.

    The Bentley is more rare but I've heard many cases of unreliability.

     

    That's not true at all!!

    I know 2 guys that have been driving them on a daily basis with no problems at all. One of them already has 100,000kms on his GT.

    Several people here have imported used ones from the UK and the service station is the same as Porsche's. Every time I go there I hear complaints and stories.

    But these may not be accurate and representative.

    Talking to people at a car workshop about the reliability of their cars is about as useful in terms of a statistically objective "market survey" as asking people in a betting shop about their views on gambling. Smiley

    The people with reliable cars just drop them off for routine services long intervals apart and just quickly pay their bill and leave when they pick them up again. The rest of the time they are out enjoying the cars. 

    The people who hang around workshops waiting for their rides to be fixed and relating their woes to anyone who might, or might not, want to hear them are naturally the ones who have problems. There's no way to tell on that basis how big or small a minority they are.

    I cant see those AMG spoilers and especially door sills anymore. This design is kept since years now and it is as boring and as 90is as the BMW Alpina or 80is Koenig Design.

    At least the front goes new ways, but being honest, just adding a massive intake and a adding that LEDs reminds me on that self tuned cars of 18years old boys playing with fiberglass and glue!

    The engine and performance though must be fascinating!
