The convertible actually looks nicer than the coupe in picture if those drawings are real.
I thought the same. Because of the very long bonnet, the car might look much better without a roof (that means top down) than in a coupé version.
That was also true of the original 50s car
nope, the 50s Coupe looks 10 better than the conv. That why it's priced higher than Conv. version.

I went to see about the sls yesterday. Base price 317.249,17 euro with a few extras it worked out to 396.334,03. I still have not seen the car up close and they don’t know if they can arrange a test drive for me. My Audi R8 V10 cost me about 220.000 is it really worth nearly double the price? im posting some prices of some of the extras just so you can compare with your own countries prices. Alubeam silver paint 19.740, carbon fibre interior 13.818, ceramic brakes 18.753, b&o sound system 11.646,60.
forgot to mention that when i bought the Audi there was a discount on all cars during that period from the Greek goverment. the base price for it now is 250.000

You mean the "tax" reduction, the goverment did. We had the same decrease in taxes for a while last year.
An R8 V10 has a list price of around 300.000 Euro, here in Turkey.
SLS is around 370.000 Euro.
We have 117% tax on the cars with an engine larger than 2.0L
My M3's list price is 160.000 Euro. So an R8 V10 is double the price and SLS is 2,5 times expensive.

yes you are correct with the tax reduction. But it is alot of money for something I have not even seen and the dealership in my town just called me and told me if i wont to see one for me to travel to Athens and see it. i told them for that money that can ship it to patras for me to see it (and drive it) and they told me they couldnt. it seems like they dont wont to make a sale

17% i wish we had that here too...........
No, you get me wrong; the tax is 117% of the netto price of the car. That means 217% in total.

they have databases in the computers. they enter the VIN numbr and get the value including all options etc. no tricks there.
so basically you pay tax on manifesto value incl. shipping ex VAT.

It is same in Turkey, only exception is (and also it should be like this in your country) the database in the custom has distributors prices which is lower than MSRP.

unfortunately not on the high end cars. they go with published RRP. so even if i would get a discounted car and the matching invoice, they would base tax on their own records....
on high volume models there is room for negotiation.
Here, taxes used to be like that. And consequently there was a lot of argument because of differences in published prices and invoiced prices. Also people used to retrofit several extras so as to avoid the cost going on the import invoice and be taxed. When those were imported as parts the tax was very low.
Since 2005 the system changed and tax is on engine size. Below 2lt the tax is negligible, up to 3 lt not bad, but it is rising from 3lt upwards.
As a result almost all the limousines and SUVs are 3lt Turbo diesels rather than petrol engined with higher CC.
Also you save a lot if you get your HP from a Porsche 3.6 or 3.8 or 3.8 Turbo rather than a larger capacity BMW or Mercedes V8.
Another anomaly is that the amount of tax for a given engine size is depreciated proportionately if the car is imported used from a EU country. So a one year used car from the UK (right hand steering here)carries a much lower tax than a brand new car. If you import a 3-4 year old car it works out very cheap as there is practically no tax. This makes buyers to acquire used cars from abroad rather than buy new.
