great write-up, i knew JC's steering wheel crying was over the top, but one really would have to try it. you have and i bet it's awesome. stunning 458, what a car!! enjoy!!!
Clarkson's moaning about the steering really is exaggerated, just think how often you have to use the indicator when the steering wheel is NOT in neutral position. Same goes for wipers and flash light. Well, I think it is a typical example of JC's style of journalism.
But and this is a big but, buttons versus stalks, for me the buttons really don't improve the handling. The only argument for the buttons may be that they make the use of the paddles easier. But then I asked myself, did I ever have the slightest problem in using the paddles when Ferrari still was using stalks? The answer is no. So for me, the new steering wheel design is purely done because of marketing reasons to document the relationship between Ferrari's road and Formula 1 cars.
