Wow you guys have worked out the logistics and engineering challenges already? Happy to see you're getting your hands dirty already. This will be an amazing project to follow, and I will support you in the 24HR race next season!! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)
Jim -
ignore all the critcism, your project is fantastic. Already the "normal" p4/5 was a treat and this is even better for all racers among us. Are you going to be part of the driver line up in the 24h as well. If so it will be great to share the track with you as I am scheduled to raise myself in 2011.
Please do keep this site update on your progress and give your team ample time to test the car at the Ring ahead of time!!

Thanks.
I won't be driving as these days I'm more of an exerciser than a racer.
Best!
Hello Jim,
great to read the news on your project. Remembered your project a while ago and was hoping for an update. As I indicated further above in this thread, I am very curious about the technical background and as I see that you are using Studiotools for the surface creation, can you give us some first-hand comments about the entire progress? Are you using CFD calculations or a actual model in the windtunnel?
Thanks in advance for your answer and best wishes for the project!

Hi
We will also be using the wind tunnel for P 4/5 C and all of the wind tunnel data we already have have for P 4/5.
As an aside P 4/5 C has Officially been accepted into EXP1.

This is the same Team that's building P 4/5 C.

Hello Jim,
I was one of the guys here who really liked your P4/5 from the start and said so -- and think its one of the best designs associated with Ferrari in a long time. That being said I hope the above picture is not the final paint scheme for this racer.
This car needs a unique and atractive paint job/scheme to be remembered and to be remembered as something special similar to some of the 917 race cars of the early 1970's. It's needs something like you would get from a Peter Max or the artist that does those famous, colorful stick people.
But if I were doing something like this I would give Peter Max a buzz, maybe he likes cars and would love to be involved.

sometimes he does good
sometimes not so much
That's better but,
So here is my suggestion;
1) draw a rectangle equal to the shape and size of the P4/5 from a directly overhead viewpoint which would include the entire nose all the way back to the back edge, including the glass.
2) Do a very bold industrial style 2-color only (red/black) heavy stylized line-art,typography styles, logo style image at angles, meaning not perfectly readable from a head-on view of the car
3) drop that design onto the car let parts of the words and other items of the design drape over the edge onto the side of the car.in their black color. Just the type not the background. Make a transition from the red to the white sides as if the red is melting and being blown to the back as if by wind.
4) Have both sides be white background with red melting onto it and then the LOGO of your sponsor in the blue. The round Blue Z ball of Zurich on the doors where numbers go and ZURICH written large before the ball and their slogan on the other side.
5) So your sides are red white & blue. Your front and all top surfaces are red with black.
So here are elements of the black items on the red canvas
example of line art - take it from a real line drawing of the dct gearbox in the actual car and stylize it
Ferrari actually pours its own engines, so a shot like this
typography of different names - companies, past drivers, races......
and the look of a past driver or even enzo - this style, NOT holding a gun
the side ball and lettering
Napolis:
Above is the rectangle that forms the canvas for the piece of artwork.
Now the question is would you go with a black background with ferrari red being the "ink". as this would make things much easier with all that black glass. Still have a lot of Ferrari red making up all the words and pics including part of the horse - OTHERWISE the glass from the GT sticker back has to be red (wrapped or whatever tech there is) if you want red as the background.
And the Zurich sticker has to go from the front.
