    Many thanks Kiran!

This is a great report of a stunning car. Performance and set up seems to be very need!

Re: JAGUAR XFR (2010) - Y MAG - KIRAN JAY HASLAM - REVIEW

    Thank you!

Jaguar are doing a very good job recently!

Pity it's not British owned anymore, although I'm sure the engineering is.

The new owner Tata is doing a great job with giving the right investments for R&D.

You can see the results in the success of Jaguar as well as Land Rover! Both having full order books!

I respect Mr. Tata very much, from what I read about him.

But it's pity the British haven't been able to hold on these valued automotive brands.

Imagine if Mercedes was totally bought by a foreign investor, for example.

I 100% agree Reginos! Its a pity, but somehow its productive. And as you said, most developers and people working at Jaguar & Land Rover are british. Even as production is - so in total a huge win for UK!

Re: JAGUAR XFR (2010) - Y MAG - KIRAN JAY HASLAM - REVIEW

Great post Kiran, thanks for putting it up, it was a good review and very well written.

Re: JAGUAR XFR (2010) - Y MAG - KIRAN JAY HASLAM - REVIEW

I think the marque's heritage will always ensure that whoever owns the company will make sure the cars remain true to their origin. Heritage is, after all, the USP of ever carmaker! TATA has definitely injected the right amount of cash into the new range, and yes, I can honestly say that it is the best Jag I have driven. And to be frank, I prefer it over the XK! Even though the XK gets me on looks, the XFR is really quite practical. I am really lucky that I seldom have to write about cars I don't like, but every now and then I do (I have to), so it does make it easier to put articles together like this, especially when the car is a pleasant surprise like this Jag! For what it is priced at in Oman, it is a great alternative to a BMW 5 or 6 series. Which brings me to another point... I have discarded two BMW articles from going to print, because honestly, I have been so bitterly disappointed with the build quality of the new cars. As driving cars they are really trying to do "everything" and have lost their zest and sporting appeal. I feel the same way about Merc, too (but not with sporting appeal, just build quality). These days Audi and VW have soared in build quality, making Audi's outlandish pricing - reasonable, and VW's reasonable pricing - outlandish! ...Outlandishly good!

Thanks for the great support on the articles guys and girls!

    K.

Kiran, great article once again. One little error though. The car is nearly two metres wide, not three! So you rate this car better than the new 5? How about the diesel version of this car, did you get a chance to drive one?

Re: JAGUAR XFR (2010) - Y MAG - KIRAN JAY HASLAM - REVIEW

Hi Way, yep - typo on the 3 metres! Well spotted. It is actually 1.877 metres wide. We don't get Diesel versions in the Middle East. Diesel is terrible here. Only petrol versions, and in many cases (ie VW golfs) only the largest engine choices. My Tiguan is only available in this market as a 200bhp 2.0-litre turbo, which is great for a petrolhead like me!

Re: JAGUAR XFR (2010) - Y MAG - KIRAN JAY HASLAM - REVIEW

I hear you mate! I love a good petrol engine like you too. But my missus has been complaining that all our cars are so unenvironmentally friendly. Her X5M drinks fuel like nothing else we have owned, and I just picked up a E63 that will be even worse than the C63 it replaced. The other cars like the Spyder is ok on fuel, but they aren't exactly the cars that are used daily. So I'm contemplating getting a nice high powered diesel to make her happy, and a small city car for myself (Golf R is the front runner right now although I keep thinking about a Polo GTI). Anyway back on topic, how do you rate the XFR against the E63?

Re: JAGUAR XFR (2010) - Y MAG - KIRAN JAY HASLAM - REVIEW

The E63 felt more "weighty" or "meaty" to me. It reminds me of a VR6 golf due its weight distribution, with a lot of weight over the front wheels, you feel it on turn in, or maybe I am too used to 911 crispness? I think it is a fantastic car, but bang for your buck, you are getting an XFR here in Oman for about RO 15,000 less than the E63. That is about AUD$45,000 less! Quite a sizable sum for a car that hits 100km/h only 0.2 seconds slower! Size wise it is comparable, and Jag have actually set the Merc in its sights. But what will the Jag be like 15 years from now? Probably in pieces, whilst the Merc will have been exported to Egypt and used daily with 400,000 on the clock by some cab driver in Cairo! Does anyone care? We seem to be in the mode of buying a new car - unless of course it is a collectors car - quite regularly these days; making longevity negligible.

If you are looking for a Diesel to replace the X5M, don't buy anything other than a new gen Cayenne. Alternatively I tested out the new A8 in diesel config, and that was a stormer, too! But pricey compared to a Cayenne, given that you can actually venture off-road with the Cayenne!

Hey, I still have my 914 1973 in Melbourne. I need to sell it, and it owes me a heck of a lot as it is a stunning example. But I am now willing to cut my losses (considerably) and looking for AUD$17,000 to let it go. It is just sitting still, and I am not heading to Aus anytime soon! Any ideas on who might want it?

Re: JAGUAR XFR (2010) - Y MAG - KIRAN JAY HASLAM - REVIEW

Haha I live in Eureka tower (in Southbank by the Yarra in case you haven't been back for awhile) so off road is something that I don't generally do.  I do like the Cayenne very much, but am not sure about getting a low powered diesel.  I want a high powered one!  I wonder if VW will bring the V8 diesel Toureg here.  By the way, over here, the E63 and XFR is about the same price afaik.

It's a real shame your 914 is still not sold.  If I had space I would have bought it!  Are you advertising it?  Carsales or PCV is the way to go!
