    Ferrari 458 Italia weighted at 1598kg !

     Some could call it the weight gate, Ferrari's magnificent 458 Italia is shockingly heavier than its predecessors.

    We measured our test car at 1598kg (3522 lbs) with a full tank of gas and nothing else in it. Standard seats and forged wheels, and nothing else that can explain the weight difference with the 430. That's even heavier than the 1580kg official registration weight in Switzerland.

     

    The last 430 we measured on the same corner scales (CCB, carbon sport seats) weighed 1474kg (3250lbs), and our test Scud another 53kg (117lbs) less. Outer dimensions certainly don't explain it, and the dual clutch transmission is probably contributing a little. Scary trend for an otherwise fantastic car.

    It seems that the official weight mesurements very often are lower then the real weight.  But 1600 kg is a lot !!! But on the other  hand the 458 does have great performance anyway.....

    Does that mean Sport Auto received the wrong (lighter) car when it achieved a 10.6s in the 0 - 200km/h test ?

    As we have talked many times, the problem with the weight is more obvious in a whole track day or in other words longer period of time, not one lap, one 0-200 run, etc...

    Nissan GTR is a perfect example.

     Hi Gnil ... Still working on my N'Ring laps Smiley, been making some progress lately. Best lap in 7'53" BTG so far. A couple of recent videos with data logging: 1 & 2.

    Btw, it's not like they are the only ones cheating on weight figures. Porsche does the same. GT3 mk1s are a healthy 80kg heavier than claimed by Zuffenhausen, we have measured several cars now, most in the 1470-1480 ballpark with 19" wheels.

    Reason : options

    California can weight 1780-1900+kg depending on options.

    Sport Auto received 458 in the lightest specification. Standard seats add 20-30kg, several other options and 50-60kg difference in test cars becomes real.
