Bad News,,,,2006 CS --- No sleep.

CS-2006, 37000 miles, stored winters, warranty expired Nov 2009, out of storage 4-2010, driven 1500 miles this Summer, checked oil about one week ago= near top of gauge,no signs of heating/noise/lights/etc.    Monday this week-( 07-20-2010) I was driving at about 35 mph in St.Paul , MN.    Yellow engine light flashes and goes to solid in about two minutes. Call P service--- " don't drive it".  Time from light on to park = 5 minutes/max.  "Towed" to dealer, but , they have not been able to get to it, yet.

Some minor but bad engine sounds as I parked it .  I am broken up Smiley : 1) I do not have my P-car to drive ; 2) do I have to give up my new grandson for what is likely to be a big bill; 3) what the heck ---- 37K miles, just out of warranty, they went though the car prior to winter storage, no warning relative to temp/pressure/lights/noise/no oil consumption, don't do any competitive driving???   ; 4)  Any advice would be very helpful.

Regards to the always helpful Members  Smiley ,

Oh wow that is not good. Seems so unexpected. Who did the pre storage testing? Your P dealer? And also when did the warranty expire?

I'm not sure as to what it could be, but im hoping for a simple ECU reboot and hope it was electrical. Keep us updated!

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

Re: Bad News,,,,2006 CS --- No sleep.

    Hello Atzporsche:

Dealer did the pre-storage, pre-warranty expiration check this past November.  All dealer service and checks though out the ownership.    He did find that I had a defective Steering wheel-- electronics. They replaced the whole wheel-- fully covered under the warranty- well done .  So, four years since I picked up car--warranty done 11/2009..   Was at about 35K when he did the pre check (prior to storage). I only drove it sparingly this Summer (just completely re did my "1989" Miata-- also, a lot of fun to drive-- just different than P-car).  Once drove in an English car (two years ago)  rural caravan rally, no racing, but , higher speeds than posted.  All gauges etc. have been normal since day one.  I am somewhat religious about checking the oil and fluids.  I guess this is going to cost a small fortune--as engines go????  ( think positive, think positive, dream good thoughts.... yes, am going nuts).

Thanks for your interest .  Love Canada......

ps: different interesting issue: I did find out last Summer that the phenomena of different temps coming from the top vents and the 'foot' vents is not something they can fix. " it is in the design".  Not a big deal except in the Spring and Fall when your feet are hot and the top vents run cold.  Very weird.  I got a written statement saying they could not fix this. Not even close to this engine issue.  I fear the Monday call I am going to get from the dealer.

Time from light on to park = 5 minutes/max

Do not tell the dealership, the above, could prove expensive...

These are not good signs, let´s hope it can be only the MAF or any electrical problem. Keep us posted and good luck, I know the feeling.

    Report:

Thank you to those who offered advice and 'comfort' for my P-car problem :

THE  call just came in.  Indeed, per  J.Seven's guess, it appears to be electrical. Two cylinders lacked coil spark. They jumped the dead cylinders with good coils and they looked good. Service tech has not seen this failure before in 11's/Boxsters.  Parts are on order,,,and, I hope to get car back tommorrow .      Est = $ 500.

I guess I need to be a better positive 'thinker'.       My John Deere tractor 'died' last week also,,,along with Husquvarna brushcutter (not a good week). JD Dealer said zero pressure in one cylinder...  I am doing my best to help our economy with my multiple engine issues. So, the Porsche diagnosis was good news.  I anticipated his request for my first born grandson, to no avail.

    Regards,

    jack

Could have been a lot worse - extended warranties are essential..

I agree - I'm deciding what to do when my extended warranty runs out in November 2010 - it's another £2450 or so. They're not cheap but much cheaper than a new engine I suppose.
