    Re: Panamera MK 2

The 928 is dead...live with it. The next possible thing to a 928 will be the Panamera Coupe.

Apparently for some people, only the US market counts but deal with this too, the US is not the only market for Porsche and during the 928 time period, the US market was important but the german market was very important too and the 964 and especially the 993 started to have success over the 928.

Personally, I bought my first 911, a 993 Targa (not that I wanted it but it was the only 911 I could afford because the dealer sold me a 96 model for a reduced price) despite my temptation for a 968CS. The 928 was out of my league financially, I don't remember how much the last 928 GTS was but it was a lot. I also can't remember that I actually wanted a 928, it reminded too many people of the 944/968 and a heavy "luxury" grand tourer.

I always liked the design of the 928, especially the last GTS, I thought it was ahead of its time but the car got too heavy and too expensive and too comfort oriented.

Anyway, I won't comment on fritz but let me say one thing: I would loose each time I would argue with him for various reasons. I guess you need to trust me on this one.

NO He isn't regarding the 928 and the market in the US.

I was there and lived it. I was driving in a 928 in 1982. I was driving 911's in the mid 80's to Porsche showrooms.

You once made a weird comment years ago here about 928's that were all souped up and couldn't handle or some such NONSENSE.

My thread about the History of Porsche is accurate as all the numbers. It is historic fact. All of it from published sources. That's all news reports.

As to the status of the 928 vs the 911 that is all accurate too. I lived it.

None of what I posted is opinion. None of it was mine.

To you guys with a chip on your shoulder about the 928- just enjoy what you have and ignore history.

    RC:

The 928 is dead...live with it.

I am living with it and quite happy with my car as everyone knows. Seems to bother some though.

Apparently for some people, only the US market counts but deal with this too, the US is not the only market for Porsche and during the 928 time period, the US market was important but the german market was very important too

At the peak in the mid 80's the US market was 60% of Porsche sales. That is important and the largest market by far.

Personally, I bought my first 911, a 993 Targa (not that I wanted it but it was the only 911 I could afford because the dealer sold me a 96 model for a reduced price) despite my temptation for a 968CS.

The 993 was very nice, my favorite was the 1986 3.2. Cute little car.

The 928 was out of my league financially, I don't remember how much the last 928 GTS was but it was a lot.

You just answered the ENTIRE PROBLEM. THERE IT IS THAT"S IT! The 928 was out of most peoples leagues!!!!!!!!!! It was not sold to the same people as the 911 was. Thanks RC. Your honesty ends the debate/problem. Never a competition between 911 and 928.

I also can't remember that I actually wanted a 928, it reminded too many people of the 944/968 and a heavy "luxury" grand tourer.

The beyond amateurish nature of Porsche advertising. Just pathetic beyond belief, they never marketed the 928 correctly or with much enthusiasm. The 1987 re-design took away the agressive looks with the rounded front and rear bumpers and hurt sales. Bad decision.

I always liked the design of the 928, especially the last GTS, I thought it was ahead of its time but the car got too heavy and too expensive and too comfort oriented.

Seems to me the Ferrari 599 customers have no problem mixing speed and luxury. That is where the 928 would be positioned if sold today.

Anyway, I won't comment on fritz but let me say one thing: I would loose each time I would argue with him for various reasons. I guess you need to trust me on this one.

Like I said, even if he was Wolfgang Porsche or Peter Schutz he would not know the 80's US market better than I did, I lived it from outside the company, experienced all the products, was in the showrooms, went to the races, read the articles.

    ALL PORSCHE ARE REAL PORSCHE!!!

    Re: Panamera MK 2

^^ That's why some companies conduct market research, precisely because they do not know what their existing and potential customers are thinking. There is no way someone sitting in Germany knew better what was going on in the minds of US customers and the results prove that.

And to make statements like the market went against the 928 or to say their was a choice being made by customers between the 911 and the 928 is ludicrous.

1 minor point - in the fall of 1983 the 928 was rated at 310 hp, 12 YEARS later it was rated at 345 hp. Just 35 hp gain in 12 years when the price had risen 220%.  It should have been 420hp  by then,. PORSCHE = FAIL ( I could bring up a lot of others)

    I posted this in March of 2007;

    racerx:
That is an unbelievably bad move. Taking on debt to buy a money losing business with no prospects just when oil might be set for another jump and a slowing worldwide economy.

VW shares are high now just because of speculation of this move since their first poor decision to buy their initial position. A disaster for the future of porsche.

They can't give the cayenne away, the cayman, a nice car, just doesn't sell, the panamera looks like a dud so far and now this. The leadership must be living in an alternate universe. All these billions could have created a diverse porsche product line, see the 917 thread.

racerx, the more you post and post obsessively about your dislusional and distorted view of the 928 the more credibility you loose, and you are just taken in a humorous manner.

I know for you its different but 928 production died out two decades ago without much fuss or tragedy for the rest of the Porsche drivers/fans, give it a rest.

I did not respond to your last useless post, so you needed to poke again.

No one forced you to read the thread, no one made you type this post. How often do I post on the 997 board??? (and when I do it is usually a compliment)

It is always necesssary to correct mistakes. You've lost any moderater credibility in my eyes with your name calling.

I see other issues here with you, UFC, other subject matter, you simply don't like to be shown to be wrong, deal with that.

    Re: Panamera MK 2

Come save us all, O Wise Carlos, they need your wisdom.

Start with the guy with 7 928's. He needs the most help.

    Or perhaps you should start here with the ones buying the 928 custom watches;

    http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/928-forum/501897-928-wrist-watches.html

Or maybe jump in here and tell us why we shouldn't have more power

Last time I looked, they all said PORSCHE on the back

See, you just proved my point only further. Like I said, give it a rest, your only making it worse.

I saw a sketch of the facelift headlights and you will be very surprised (actually I'm not ). It is always the same with Porsche...first model is never perfect.  I would even say they do that by purpose, as weird as this may sound. Don't have another explanation for it.
