2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

After Vettel's outstanding performance at Valencia, the battle resumes at Silverstone with the main protagonists from Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren. I am curious to see what further performance upgrades McLaren will unveil at this race. AFAIK Ferrari has further upgrades too.

Hopefully this will be an exciting race Smiley I'm looking forward to it Smiley

From having had the fastest car in the first half of last season, Mercedes GP Petronas seems to have just been left behind Smiley

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

Any guesses about the tricks our Lewis and Macca may have prepared for their home race?

Not fuelling the car enough in the Q3? Done

Weaving on the straights to impede another driver? Done

Racing in the pit-lane risking the lifes of the mechanics? Done

    Ilegally overtaking the SC? Done

Going backwards and cutting the entry to the pit-lane to gain an advantage? Done

They are going to have a hard time trying to innovate in that area but they are such a specialists in the matter that I'm sure they won't dissapoint.

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

Well, whatever the outcome it should be interesting considering 1/3 of the track is new for all drivers.

Funny enough, the leaders this season don't interest me. I'm more interested in the battles of the back markers and mid-fielders.

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

Despite been new in the Moto GP race the track seemed to be surprisingly bumpy, I wonder if that could affect the aero balance of the cars.

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

I found this article frankly amusing:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8789956.stm

Why would the Button-Hamilton rivalry boil over now at Silverstone? Surely it has had the potential to boil over at every preceding race.

This just strikes me as being an unnecessary attempt to attract attention and to get some publicity by Damon Hill who is president of the British Racing Drivers Club - that owns the Silverstone track. He need not worry - there will be enough attention on Silverstone this weekend.

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

Interesting to note Hamilton can drive around deficiency of the car to extra maximum out of a unstable car and qualified 4th, while Button struggle mightily to adapt and didn't make the cut and ended up 14th.

With McLaren struggling with their new aero package, Ferrari gives a strong showing of their faster car, and Alonso benefiting mightily by qualifying 3rd, Massa also did well to come in 7th.

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

Hamilton and Button have totally different driving styles... i.e. aggressive - versus - smooth.

Obviously the currently unstable set-up suits Hamilton's style more than Button's.

Amazing, just when you thought Whitting and his "chaps" wouldn't dare be so obvious in this race after the Valencia scandal, they do it again... why does anyone who is not brittish even bother racing in F1, its pretty clear who is set up to win the championship already... not only is F1 boring to watch since there is no overtaking but the end result is also staged too If I were Ferrari I would pull out of F1.

    Yep, that was funny...

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

    Red Bull
Formula One driver Mark Webber of Australia reacts after winning the
British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone, central England, July 11, 2010.

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

Had Alonso gone to Red Bull this year his results might have been much much different. Red Bull is the car to beat and Alonso thrives driving a dominant car, Alonso is definitely in the wrong team this year.

Good job on Hamilton on taking the 'undrivable' car to second and 'almost' keeping pace with Webber, but a even better drive by Button to gain 10 places, obviously being a champion that he is, he does adapt to the limitation of the 'undrivable' car and extract what he can from it.

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

Ferrari are gradually slipping back to the 80s-early 90s era of poor results.

    Alonso alone cannot change that.

It's just rotten luck mate. Unlike the mid 80s to mid 90s, it's lack of results and not lack of competitiveness that plagues the Scuderia. The F10 is the 2nd quickest car behind the Red Bulls but that doesn't seem to help Ferrari much. Smiley

The fact that every time something goes wrong is not a good omen. Good organisation is as essential in F1 as a fast car.

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

I expected Alonso to win at Silverstone after his good qualifying position and in view of the streak of good luck Spanish sport goes through.

Within a week we had J. Lorenzo, Nadal and the Spanish football team all winning. Only Alonso missed out.

OMG what happened between Vettel and Webber this weekend? Did the team somehow favor someone. I just watched the end and Webber radioed in "not back for a number 2 driver" WOW!!

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

If someone like Webber wins the title, it will be bad for F1. His personality and appeal are very limited for a worldwide sport. As to his driving, the hero is the car.

+1 The way he is acting gives him a very bad image. I'm always rooting for Ferrari in the teams points and rarely care so much about the drivers standing but this year i just hope its not him that wins.

Re: 2010 British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone

I dunno i've liked his calm and quiet nature ever since he drove for Jaguar back in the day. Few surprises, but has also had to deal with an above average of bad luck. He's been real good in some rain sessions, which puts him right up there. I think he is fighting against his younger rival at the team and is doing a pretty decent job at it.

I like Webber's calmness. I think he drives better under pressure.

BTW, I'm sure Michael knows what he is doing and he should have very important reasons to start racing in F1 again BUT I felt sorry for him while watching the race especially when he was overtaken by Renault and then after Vettel. He was clearly off the pace.

On the other hand, Rosberg stood on the podium.

I don't think he returns to F1 because of money.

He was already paid by Ferrari for developing Road cars.

After his 15-year racing career, he should have by now more than 600 milion USD SmileySmiley
