Very good results... NOT amazing results.
How much "not amazing" are we talking about?
Well, after Quattrroute test and Vairano track time we should expect no less then faster Hockenheim and Ring time then 997.1 GT2-NO less IMHO.
Is 458 Italia that fast
nberry:
Kreso, didn't the GT2 do the Ring in 7.33? You expect the 458 to do the same?
Yes Nick, after Quattroroute test results bar has been raised. 458 Italia NEEDS to match 997.1 GT2 track numbers on Hockenhiem and the Ring.
Results on lesser level are a dissapointment IMHO.
The more I think about it the better I understand your position.
If I had to guess, I would put the 458 results very close to the 430 Scuderia which I believe was around 7.38. If the 458 is close to that number it does demonstrate a vast improvement over the 430 which I believe was around 7.50.
BTW, do you know the results but cannot say until the JUly issue is released?
Nick,
Did you watch the video on Sport Auto link that I posted above?
Little bit about this forthcoming Supertest... Ferrari sended entire service crew with the car to HvS for assistance...
You can not compare 458 to Scud. No way. Ferrari opended the pandora box when Italia Quattroroute 458 test was published. Resluts were amazing including out of this world Vairano track time-new record for QR testing! http://www.fastestlaps.com/track8.html
So, expectations are sky high... If 458 is with standard tires FASTER on Vairano then 997.1 GT2, 430 Scud which are equpied with optional sport tires that means something... 458 Italia should be faster then 997.1 GT2 or 997.2 GT3RS on both Hockenheim and the Ring...
BUT... Is it faster?
If it IS then Ferrari made an truly epic sportscar, the one that will be a legend-a true CGT successor.
If NOT... Then QR test results should be looked with huge glasses I guess.
Do I know the resluts. Yes, I do.
Can I post them here. NO, day ot two before 24th July maybe...
I did view the video but did not understand the commentary.
If Ferrari sent their race team to prep the car for HvS then I can assume the results are excellent. As far as I am concerned, anything under 7.38 is a huge step forward from the 430. Whether it is competitive with the GT2 my guess it is not. The GT2 is more of a track car. Also, it will be moot since the new GT2RS would spank the 458 pretty badly.
sorry mate. quattroruote has repeatedly shown that its not biased pro ferrari (e.g. carrera gt vs enzo).
sportauto has always shown to be biased pro porsche and against ferrari and lamborghini
(f430, scuderia, lp560...). wonder why.... maybe the word "germany" has to do with it?
anyways, i really wonder how can anybody, non german, give any credit whatsoever to the lap times von saurma drives in his tracks...it just totally escapes me...
458 nring time would easily be 7.25 or below, if driven flat out by somebody like basseng with stock tires. 458 von saurma time will be on scuderia's level (7.35-7.40) not to scare gt2 too much. the same goes with hockenheim's time. we already know it so no need to check sportauto...not too much originality from germans...

As you seem to be well informed, please tell us what you know about him. Very curious to become enlightened...

Chris Harris was not that all impressed with the GTO. He claimed it had traction issues on all but smooth roads. If true, I doubt the GTO can do a super time around the Ring which is not considered a smooth road.
I watched the EVO video of 599 GTO that is tested by Chris Harris and he was very impressed by the car and he thinks finally 599 gets the proper chassie what it had really deserved from the beginning.
He liked the car both on track and off the road. I think the car has traction issues due to massive power.
However, put it in race mode, then every other GTO driver becomes Schumacher, sorry Alanso

Maybe this helps: for the track, I would always choose the GT2 RS over the 458 Italia.
For daily driving and fun, the 458 Italia would surely be the better choice but looking at the cost of the GT2 RS and the 458 Italia, I would probably still go for the GT2 RS.
The Italia is a looker though...difficult decision.

allright, let me enlight you. rumors are that around the world there other tracks besides nring and hockenheim and even other auto magazines that test cars on those tracks, besides sportauto. non german auto enthusiasts should know it. well, comparing sportauto's lap times with the ones of these magazines is enlighning, indeed.
it is a well known fact that sport auto avd von saurma is heavily biast toward porsche, way more then QR is toward italian cars, proffs of these are apparent anywere you look, the easiest proof would be 360 stradales and 996 gt3RS lap times, in sport auto gt3 RS blows the stradale out of this watter, while on every other test done by any other mag, they are very close performence viese
CS vs RS
sport Auto NBR CS 7:56 RS 7:43
Hokenhaim CS 1:13 RS 1:11.8
Top Gear-both cars tested on the same day btw and both did 1:22.3
Ferrari 360 CS 1'39"85 on Autozeitung track, tested together with
Porsche 996 GT3 RS 1'39"27, both on Pirelli PZero Cors
so would someone explain to me how gt3rs found 1.2s on hokenhaim, and 13s on NBR. these are just exaples off the top of my head,
