    Factory Collection

I'm being told that I may not get my factory collection slot due to it closing end of July. My car is due for completion 12th July.Smiley

The factory collection is something I really wanted to experience so I'm pretty disappointed but unsure of my options. Could I for example ask the factory to keep the car at the factory until the factory reopens? Should I apply more pressure on my OPC?

    Re: Factory Collection

You can wait - closure is about 3 weeks.

    Re: Factory Collection

    Good to know.

    Thanks

    Re: Factory Collection

For what it's worth my Factory collection documentation says that it is not possible to collect cars between July and August due to factory close down.

I was a little concerned about this with my GT, fortunately it came in this week :-) which is the only free week i have this month....

Not sure I have the necessary willpower to wait until Sept for a factory pickup as much as I'd like to. For now I've signed the Factory Collection waiver and Porsche have acknowledged receipt.

Anyway, enjoy your collection experience and be sure to let us know how you get on.Smiley

You might be lucky as they like to shift the cars out the way as soon as they have build them....

    Re: Factory Collection

Did you get lucky and get a factory collection ?

    Re: Factory Collection

To quote my OPC "the factory collection is in place subject to suitable dates being possible for both you and Germany" ... so its looking good Smiley

    Re: Factory Collection

Fingers crossed for you mate. The collection makes the car that much more special. This is Porsche number 7 for me and aside from being a GT3 i seem to have more of a love for it than any of the previous ones. I even find myself sat in the garage with a cold beer just looking at it (How sad is that ?!)

Let me know if you get a date. If it helps as soon as i got a production date i forced my OPC to contact Porsche UK and arrange a collection date. I said that i needed to know in advance so that i could book my hotel for the return stop over. Apparently the OPCs cannot attempt to book a collection slot until the the car enters a 'in production status' on the internal computer system. Porsche UK can override this and book it for you. If you leave it until the production status you will not get more than about 10 days notice.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Thanks for the heads up Chris

Hey thats not sad, but dont just look at it, take some more pictures and share!

This will be my second Porsche, my first being a 993 Turbo in midnight blue. I caught the bug and decided to buy a 997 TTS as a 40th birthday present (midlife crisis and all that Smiley).

What exactly is it that the factory pickup package includes? I'm guessing it's Chunnel on the return leg.

    Re: Factory Collection

Yep mine was also an early 40th present (Still not 39 yet !)

    The package includes the following:-

    Flight for two to Stuttgart

    Taxi Transfer to Hotel

    5 Star Hotel

    Evening meal and Breakfast

    Taxi Transfer to factory

    Factory tour

    Museum entry

Flexi + Euro tunnel ticket (This is great as you just show up and they load you first onto the next available train (No letter allocation). When you drive to the final loading queue after customs make sure you get in the flexi plus lane and stop at the business lounge just before the final queue. (You will get a free paper and pack lunch)

You get nine days factory insurance on the car (anyone can drive as the insurance is on the car not the individual). When you get back to the UK you have two business days to get the car to the POC for the PDI and UK plate attachment. They also fit the VTS which is interesting to watch.

Any idea as to why the VTS has to be fitted at the PDI instead of the factory?

Does the UK have a different transmitter unit to the rest of Europe? Smiley

Thanks for the info. The flexible euro tunnel ticket will be ideal as I plan on stopping off in Austria before returning to Calais.

    Re: Factory Collection

Good news! Porsche have made an exception and will allow me to pick up my car from the factory on the 26th of July even though the factory is closed Smiley. Sadly I wont be able to take the factory tour Smiley

I plan on driving back from Stuttart to Calais through Germany (i.e. via Koblenz, Aachen, Brussels etc). Can anyone suggest a quality Hotel mid journey with secure parking (and nice wide parking spaces) ?

    Thanks
