Let's compare stock to stock , otherwise the Viper guys with modded 1200 hp motors will chime in next .
Plus, a buyer of an optioned up 458 could have bought said PDK Turbo , added a chip and exhaust AND purchased an early 430 coupe for the same $$$.

Turbo PDK did 41,9s in Sport Auto.
I have latest AMS- very good results for 458(and to some point for Audi RS5).
BUT... This example of 458 is much slower then the one tested by Italia Quattroroute. I expected that...
Also, wait for forthcoming Sport Auto test. Interesting Hockenheim time...

997.2 Turbo S official 0-200km/h is 10.8s so, we could assume that some German mags will beat this time. That means that in real life 100km/h-220km/h 458 WONT be faster then 997.2 Turbo S.

Agreed about the Turbo S, seems to be the "right" competitor for the 458, but you can't compare the Ferrari to a car like the GT2 RS.

Little bit slower then 458.
BUT, on the autobahn you do not need 0-300km/h. You need most of the time 100km/h-240km/h. I can bet with you that here Turbo S wont be any slower then 458. You will use 700Nm of torque here while you will need to use 8800rpm at least on 458.
Do not take me wrong-458 is amazing car. Just, according to AMS test results I know two things:
-in real life 997.2 Turbo S is not any slower
-forthcoming McLaren MP4-12C will be faster then 458

Porsche published an official 0-300 time for the GT2 RS (the first time, I think). It is 28.9s 
Not bad, given the fact that the manual gear-box has an adverse effect on the acceleration time (probably close to 1s).

More or less it will be on the same level.
I look forward very much to the McLaren presentation next week. Personally, I don't like the exterior design that much. However, I could live with the looks of this car if the performance is really convincing
BTW, spider version due in 2012, very extreme limited edition - approx. Euro 700k - due in 2013...

I don't think the McLaren, notwithstanding its long F1 tradition, can have the same allure as a Ferrari. To be chosen over a Ferrari, its real performance and road behaviour must be significantly superior not just a few 1/10ths of a sec on paper.

You have the first 458 on board and still no pictures 
Yesterday, I watched latest 5th Gear Episode in which they featured 458 and I fell in love with the car, once again. 
458, IMO, is the BEST sports car in the market money can buy.

for mc laren, i have a real problem with looks, not my cup of tea at all

First, enjoy your 458 Dimitri.
Second, figures are not impressive-they are up to factory specs. Remember that 0-200km/h official figure is also 10.4s... This example of 458 is clearly slower then the one tested by Quattroroute(or Italian mag results are little bit too optimistic
).
I just received an hint for fortcoming Sport Auto test. Acceleration on same level as in AMS. Hockenheim track time very, very good-not excellent. Ring? We will see..

Just as something to think about, I read this just yesterday. From 40 years ago. 
The Penske team used the revamped Porsche 917/30 in 1973. The motor with 5400cm³ produced an unbelievable 810kw (1100 hp) and 1140 kw (1500 hp) for short periods during testing. Thanks to this output the 800 kilogram car was able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.1 seconds, 0 to 200 in 5.3 seconds, and 0 to 300 in 11.3 seconds. The car could reach a top speed of over 400 km/h

0-300 km/h in 32,4 s
400 metres: 11,3 s (208 km/h)
80-120 km/h: 2,6 s/3,5 s/5,1 s/7,3 s (4th/5th/6th/7th gear)
18 m slalom: 68,7 km/h
110 m ISO test: 154,7 km/h
Braking distance (100-0 km/h): 33,0 m/33,3 m (cold/warm)
1544kg measured weight(!!)
...and test example price in Germany is 245682€ with Mwst.
