    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

This might be the first year in some time that I miss it. I told myself awhile ago that I could no longer justify paying an exorbitant bill for cable anymore. I have been missing some of the GP's but Le Mans will be rough. If I spend enough time on ten-tenths I will probably find a stream.

Who do you favor in the protos?

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

To be honest with you, the protos are of little interest to me. I don't enjoy watching diesel cars absolutely annihilating the rest of the field due to regulation advantages.

For me (until Porsche eventually build a LMP1) I'll be concentrating on the GT2 race.

But to directly answer your question; I think Audi has not yet shown what the R15 can do.

Thanks for the pics - I am looking forward to the practice-sessions live on TV this week on EUROSPORT. Smiley

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

Why is it that there are no RS Spyders entered in LMP2?

Every year I enjoy watching the UK-guys getting ready for their yearly migration to Le Mans, can't wait to join them.

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

There are no RS Spyder at Le Mans this year, as there is only one team racing it in the US. The RS Spyder Program is terminated, and by the end of this year, there will be no more Spyders racing anywhere in the world.

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

    Those were the days!

BTW  - In homage to the early days, the start this year, will have all the drivers walk across the track (health & safety) and get into their cars (parked in fish bone style).

That doesn't mean there cannot be any private teams that enter an RS Spyder for the 24h? They were very successfull last year, it would seem a logical choice to enter one as a privateer in 2010, but they don't.

Sure it isn't something with regulations?

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

No - It is very expensive to run a RS Spyder. There are only a few teams that have the funds available to do so.

Porsche has stopped making any updates on the car, and will not supply the engineers (that must be present when a team runs the car) by the end of this year.  In fact - they stopped at the end of last year, but made a special deal with Cytosport for this year (ALMS).

This will be the slowest Porsche. It is manned by a full non-pro driver lineup.

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

Spyderidol, Thanks for the pictures. I too find GT series more interesting then LMP cars.  Rumor has it Audi is considering a move  away from LMP to GT series. There just some great racing going on this year in LMS and ALMS with GT cars.

    You are welcome!

That rumor has just been debunked. Audi have said that they are already working on the successor to the R15. It is referred to internally as the R18.

Here is what i consider to be the 4th fastest Porsche (overall) , but ironically stands a good chance of being the quickest in qualifying (thanks to Bergmeister)

I have a very good feeling about this Porsche. This car could just be the one to bring the GT2 Le Mans win back for Porsche (if all goes well for them)

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

What an awesome week it must be if you're there. Thousands of likeminded people, tons of activities to go and see, an atmosphere brimming with history. I would love to be a part of it.

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

Unfortunately I will have to watch it on TV. I have not been since 1999, but each year I follow it religiously. (DSTV from South Africa usually provides about 100% coverage of the race)

I have made a promise to return to Le Mans when Porsche have a LMP1 car able to win overall.

    It is an amazing experience!

I agree with that. Richard Westbrook must be one of the fastest men on a 911, Timo Scheider (two-time DTM champion) will have the skill to adapt quickly. Surprising to see that young Marco Holzer is in the line-up as well. Curious how he will fair compared to the two other drivers, if all goes well it might provide compensation for him after the loss at the Nürburgring 24h.

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

I think Marco will do very well indeed! They are all Le Mans virgins, so it will be interesting to see how quickly they adapt, and which one will be faster. Anyway, the good thing is that all three of them will be able to keep that Porsche pedaling at a good rate of speed contrary to some other more famous teams that will lose 5 or 6 seconds per lap once their non-pro drivers are at the wheel.

    Re: 24hrs of Le Mans • June, 6th – 13th 2010

Yes, quite surprising to see someone like Bergmeister in a customer-based team. Obviously 2010 is a transition year for Porsche in Le Mans but do you know of any significant modifications on the RSR for this season?

The race should be quite exciting, especially in this class, with Corvette, BMW, Ferrari and Porsche providing some serious contenders for the victory. Unlike you, I will also follow the battle of the vacuum cleaners...
