Stupid question, I know, but does this car have launch control?  The 0-62 times don't seem any better than standard turbo.  I am sure I am missing something...

That would be far too low a number. Munich alone might get about 20 cars...

I agree (120 sounds much more realistic) but is what I was told by someone who has ordered one and should be in the know through their close Porsche contacts Smiley loads of conflicing information about numbers out there......latest is UK will get 16....

    That red is Guards BTW

I don't know who would actually delete air condition. Radio, maybe, but if you delete the air con, you are buying the wrong car.

If you're going to strip out every creature comfort and use it just as a track car, why would you not just by a legitimate Porsche race car?

    Agreed, buy a cup car...

You'd have to trailer a Cup car to the track, whereas you can drive there in a GT2/GT3 RS.

If you don't go to the track enough to warrant a trailer, then the real life benefit of deleting the air con is almost nothing. The weight difference would be hardly noticeable under casual use due to variation in fuel, junk you keep in the car, passenger, etc. Small amounts of weight savings don't do much unless you are going to push the car all the way. You could probably make up for the hundredths of a second on your lap due to the additional weight by simply learning to drive faster.

Chris Harris on the 997 GT3 RS...

Also, the aircon will help to retain your physical fitness... Most non-professionals will drive slower if the have to operate under unfavorable working conditions (like in an overheated car). 10kg of sprung weight is really nothing Smiley

Maybe because the turbo is 4wd and the GT2 rs 2WD? Smiley

It's not faster in 0-62mph than the standard Turbo, because it is rear-wheel-drive compared to the Turbo's AWD and PDK gearbox.  The acceleration advantage will become much more evident in 0-100mph or 0-200mphSmiley

i was going to order the car without aircon, but I'm now very glad i didni't as the cabin is warm (~22 deg)even if it's cool outside (12deg) and with the fan going.

    No, not me :)

the guy works as a official Porsche test driver. According to what I was told, he did 271 in the bottom of the Fuchsröhre...  Smiley

    Re: 997 GT2 RS - Official Information & Photos

    LOL, that's insane

Any idea how much you get out of your GT2 at Fuchsrohre?

    Re: 997 GT2 RS - Official Information & Photos

I am not fast at all there... :( But, I still have fun

    Re: 997 GT2 RS - Official Information & Photos

Damn you're quick, very nice lines! I often forget how quick a GT2 accelerates compared to GT3's, what a beast....

239km/h through Fuchsrohre is still top notch imo...

    Re: 997 GT2 RS - Official Information & Photos

Cool... I guess. Just looks like a 911 with a new wing and wheels. This car is so sweet, that it's too bad it looks like a 911. The numbers would better compliment a 918.
