    2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

After all the drama and controversy of the Chinese F1 Grand Prix, the F1 circus returns to Europe. No more early starts for some time for us F1 fans in Europe Smiley

I expect there will be some major upgrades to the cars for Barcelona - assuming that the Icelandic volcano ash allows the parts from the factories and the teams stuck in China to actually get to Spain Smiley

Should be another fantastic fight between Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault.

If it's a dry race, I expect Red Bull's dominance to come to the fore. In a wet race, it's anybody's guess who will win Smiley

We've been enjoying the action because of all the unpredictability caused by the rain - but it can't rain at every race Smiley

Looking forward to a great race - hopefully with less controversy this time - roll on Spain Smiley

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

I will be curious what takes place in the Mercedes pits with Mr. Schu getting the new chassis - What if Nico still beats him?  And how will Nico feel if he is not faster anymore than MS?  It is a strange deal to not have both drivers in the same exact car.  Not certain what type of strategy that is.  Thought Ross was smarter (more subtle) than that.  While with Ferrari Schus 'extra' hardware advantage was always assumed but not specified.

Anyway, I have been away from the board for a long time but have always remained a hardcode F1 fan (early watcher in the US).  Thanks easy for keeping up the tradition of getting the ball rolling again.

BTW - I predict a first win for Schu at this track - he has always been fast in Spain (minus the new(ish) insane chicane prior to the last turn which ruins the front straight entry).

Cheers to all and I hope for a safe race.

You just asked the $64,000 questions  Hopefully, all will be revealed next weekend

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

Good to see you back Leawood911.

    Re Spanish GP:
So does that mean that Mercedes will compete with two different cars?
I always thought Nico will get the new chassis as well, I was not sure about that it is something like a special thing for Schuhmacher.

But I don't think we will see Schuhmacher take the win, not after what we have seen so far this season. Interesting will be indeed, if Nico should be quicker again.
And for the victory, well, it's the GP of Spain, right? So there can be only one winner: Go Alonso!

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

The change of MS-chasis was due to a technical problem, as far as I know, MS had a problem with his chasis, as it was "twisting" and therefore did'nt provide the same performance as the chasis of NR!

Oh? That explains that then. Smiley

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

I guess this is the most important race in the season. All teams are coming with their modifications. Lots of new technology. It will show how good they perform!

I cant wait for the race!!!

Michael Schumacher third in both sessions. Improvement? We'll see. Perhaps it's the new repaired chassis

I somehow can't believe that Mercedes GP sends out MSC in a broken chassis, this is a high precision sport and should have been detected. Maybe someone more tech-savy than me can step in and explain how they could miss a broken chassis.

It could also be that MSC asked for a bad car to lower expectations and have some time to adapt, but that is unlikely too.

This smells, we are missing something.

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

It seems like an excuse for his performance on his earlier races, Mercedes is struggling with the sponsors since the perfomrance of MS is not paying off marketingwise. Now they may have some important improvements on the Mercedes and may expect better perfomance and its the perfect excuse for the previous GPs, but why they would believe that any F1 fan can believe that the kaiser has been given a defective chasis for all these races is beyond me

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

The story Mercedes GP was giving was that Schumi's chassis was damaged and couldn't be repaired fully because all those 4 races were 'flyaway' races. Apparently, he now has a new chassis.

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

MS is much faster suddenly because they have lengthen the wheelbase and changed the weight distribution of the car so that he can now turn in more sharply and not have a car that understeers.  His old car understeered so he set it up to have less front end grip, which then chewed up the rear tyres badly.  This new chassis is finally what Michael is used to and what he likes.

Sounds very plausible, thanks! I guess you can't move an old tree...

    Friday analysis:  http://www.formula1.com/news/features/2010/5/10736.html

Schumacher is happy about the changes, Rosberg thinks the changes are the wrong way.

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

Bruno Senna is definitely no Ayrton. He was half a sec slower than Klien who has jumped into this car for the first time ever!

Well done Mark Webber  Red Bull was too strong today.

Finally Schumi outqualifies Rosberg  Nico doesn't look happy with the revised chassis.

Looking forward to a good race tomorrow

Do the two chassis have to be identical?

    I hope he races well.

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

Yes me too, Red Bull is going to drive away from the pack, they got a considerable lead and pace. Hopefully reliability is fixed. Schumacher for 3rd beind the Red Bulls!!!

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

Hmm, Alonso signed with the wrong team.........AGAIN!

Imagine Alonso in a Red Bull RENAULT, he could have won all the races till now.

He should have just stick to Renault stuff, Alonso and Renault really goes well like gin and tonic or peanut butter and jam.

    he needs a better agent.

Well, IF the RBR's make it to the finish line...

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

Just have Bernie shorten the race for 'TV spot reasons'.

Re: 2010 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

...without rain, likely a straight race. Although the fight for victory between Webber and Vettel will be interesting, and also the battle between McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes GP.
