This confirms what I announced a year ago here http://www.rennteam.com/forum/thread/20095073/GT2_RS_/page1.html and almost no one beleived me...well...honestly I doubted it too heehhe :D but my source was correct :D

    great news for porsche fans!

Interesting, I had forgotten about that post, and the rumor seemed very unlikely at the time given what Porsche had us used to in terms of HP figures in its 911 but it turns out it was right on the money!! Smiley

The dutch autoweek website also mentions adaptive aerodynamics... any news on that?

As far as I know, the fixed wing of the GT2 is not called adaptive, right?

Fascinating how intruiging it is guessing at the detailsSmiley I watched the vid see what you mean at 45s, a contrasting reflection looks like the lip is moving ? I can't see how it can since the wing is identical to the MK1 and there is no room there for any sort of driver mechanism to do the moving...... It could be the lip is different to the standard GT2 or maybe some subtle difference in the angulation or it could just be that the new front lip changes the aero profile in quite a big way resulting in the stock rear wing generating more downforce ?

    Re: 997 GT2 RS

I would say that RS wing has active, flap type, middle section thus creating open slot  - as on the pic. to reduce drag when full down-force is not required .

Strange. If the number are correct that means this car priced under $250,000 is a better performer than the CGT $450,000 and the new 918 Sypder price $500,000 and up (?).

Talk about compromising your models. That list of 900 would be buyers of the 918 may have just gotten shorter.

Porsche left enough room for improvements, when they introduced the 918 stating power more than 500 bhp, weight less than... etc. Smiley

This means, that they are waiting for the competition to introduce their rivals in order to specify the final specs, IMO. I'm pretty sure, that this RS Spyder engine is very, very potent.

Concerning GT2 RS... Just speechless. I was also very sceptical after the VW takeover, but these past months are dreams come true SmileySmiley

Considering the lead-times involved in developing cars and putting them into production, this model cannot just be the result of a rethink of company philosophy since VW took control of Porsche.   Smiley

My thoughts as well. However, they only thing that gave me pause was Porsche indicated that they had developed the 918 within a five month period. Or did I misunderstand?

    Re: 997 GT2 RS

     ^

It just means Porsche was holding back, and since all the the disaffected Ferrari owners need something to aspire to, they decided to unleash (all) the horses.

That new 458 by all accounts is a miserable execution in the visual department..it is certainly no "David"!

The 918 is the car Ferrari probably wishes they had produced..and then there is McLaren too!

The GT2 RS, with 6 speed, will be the "weekend" toy for special 918 owners.

Agreed fritz! If the current management can take any credit for this, it will be that they gave the project the "green light".

As pure speculation, I can imagine this car under WW's management, but with 80 less hp and 10% higher price.evil.gif

I had the info about the Turbo S in 2007, not sure anybody believed me when I posted the specs

Given the range of DIN weight Porsche quotes for the  GT2 in the owners manual : 1440-1524kg the 90kg saving puts the range at 1350-1435kg

A show car be built in five months, Nick, but a show car is not fully developed, tested, and ready for production start-up.
I remember seeing a vid about the original Boxster show car exhibited at the Detroit Motor Show in the early '90s stating that it had been built in 6 months. The production car was introduced a couple of years later and had undergone some minor Smiley changes.

You wouldn't even want to own any car which someone had developed in just five months! Smiley

Just think back to the birth of the Carrera GT, and the gestation period which lapsed between the first news of the car in the press and the delivery of the first cars to a customers.

In your defence though (hey, that's a new one for me! Smiley), I wouldn't rule out the possibility that someone made a statement which you were meant to misunderstand. Smiley

    Re: 997 GT2 RS

IMO the truth is in the middle. Development Centres like Weissach do projects all the time but not all reach production. So, the crucial decision is to release a car not develop it as an internal project. Fact is that the release of all these promising cars will be done by the new management

    The bonet is in carbon

The interior is half balck, half red

In the middle of the back wing there seems to be another small wing.....but it was hard for me to see it exactly

I'm sure that they can do each of the 300 cars in any way that the customer likes, at the presentation of the correct amount of money.

I haven't a clue regarding the interior colour combos which will be available, but I do know that there is no history of the GT models being offered with a large range of individual or Exclusive (with a big "E") options.
