Michelin PS Cup vs PS Cup+

Further to our recent speculation about the differences between the Michelin PS Cup and (new) Cup+ version I now managed to get some more detailed background info.

The attached Michelin document shows that the Cup+ version:

    - is claimed to have improved wet track and acquaplaning qualities

    - is sold as N0 and N1 spec (strangely enough, the N0 spec does not bear the Cup+ reference but still is a Cup+ tire as visible in the attachment)

    - tread pattern is slightly different for the Cup+ version (as also well visible on the attachment)

    - some of the Cup+ tires do have a "+" sign on the tires, some don't (as, for example, the 235 dimension) - this is not relevant though, as these tires are also Cup+...

All a bit confusing. However, the attachment answers most of the questions we discussed recently. The N1 spec is also officially approved for the 997GT2 (based on Michelin info I got through my tire dealer).

Re: Michelin PS Cup vs PS Cup+

So are they essentially saying that all the Porsche approved Cup tyres are now Cup + ie the specific tread pattern/compound ?

Are the OEM 997GT2 Cups the same tread pattern as Cup + or the old pattern ie regular Cups ?

What are the new N2s ?

Thanks for finding out..... could you post the seite2 pic a bit bigger so I can see the size details ?

Correct, all Porsche approved tires are now Cup+. The "old" Cup is only available in sizes/specs not compatible with Porsche.

Consequently, the OEM tires for GT3/GT2 are also Cup+ (I would assume - anything else would not make any sense, right?)

There is only one Cup+ with N2 spec: 325-30 ZR19 (which is also offered as N0 and N1). All three specs are said to be according to Porsche specs in the above document.

I will try to zoom the data table a bit...

What is the difference between N0 and N1 ?

Maybe none? The N0 might be still offered as the old GT3/GT2 documents (Fahrzeugschein) still state the N0 spec Smiley Not sure, though.

    Thanks pal Smiley

Seems bizarre that there are 3 different N versions of our 325/30x19 which are apparently identical is this purely a manufacturing ID type of thing Smiley

Posted by Jay on Mike's GT2RS thread:

I just saw one in the flesh this week - red.  it hadn't yet been detailed and still had the plastic protective bits over the rear windows.  it sits low, definitely lower then the RS, and it uses N1 rubber on the front and N2 on the rear.

So according to Hersperus's Preuninger video the GT2RS where specific and very special cups at the rear (front are same as GT3RS) to give it the extra traction and grip ?

Looks like Jay has confirmed that the new N2 325/30 X 19 is the 2RS tyre......interesting.

Best bit is my local supplier already lists this N2 tyre and it is same price as N1 @ £418 ea.

Still doesn't look good for Boxsters/Caymans.. the 265x35x19 rear doesn't appear to be N-rated  Anyone know if those might work with the (only) N-rated fronts?
