    Re: 997 GT2 RS

oh i forgot to add.  the front track is wider, just like the GT3RS.  however, unlike what some may have speculated, the flares are NOT more smoothly integrated, its really just like the GT3RS...

the horizontal slats along the front intakes are also in carbon, as is the leading edge of the central vent in front of the luggage compartment.

    hesperus:

    the above info is correct.

i also have seen detailed pictures of the car in the photo above.

unfortunately i cannot post them, out of respect to my source.  however, i will describe some details you cannot see from the above picture:

    - the hood (luggage compartment cover) is carbon, and on the launch car, is unpainted

    - the front splitter is as we saw in early spy shots and has something that look like "teeth" in the center section.  it is very deep, and is in carbon

    - the lower part of the rear bumper is in black, all along the lower edge below the exhaust tips

    - the interior is a little bit "ricey" in my opinion, at least on this car.  it is black, alcantara everywhere, but with RED accents on the steering wheel, shifter, door handles, center console and arm rests.

    - the wheels are in gold (as you can see in the picture above)

    - there is a tiny "GT2RS" script behind the front wheels.  much much smaller than the script on the GT3RS

Many thanks for these details SmileySmiley

The jump to 620PS signifies a real change away from the crappy cynical incremental increases which have occured since the 993..... Porsche means business Smiley

Marcus, whilst one of these beasts is not on my shopping list (as I am not feeling it as a daily driver) I am excited about the possibilities of retrofitting some of the hot bits:

RS aerodynamics, front splitter with rear lip and special intercooling enhancing air intakes....Smiley

You are right: these small but effective design changes are very nice Smiley

The only downside for Porsche will now be to match (or at least to get near...) the performance of this car with future generations of GT2 models. I really appreciate the change of minds at Porsche. They are now back to former times when a 993TT with WLS was still the ultimate king of the road SmileySmileySmiley

    Re: 997 GT2 RS

The dutch autoweek website also mentions adaptive aerodynamics... any news on that?

As far as I know, the fixed wing of the GT2 is not called adaptive, right?

    "0-300kph in under 25 seconds with 620PS"

For the record I am calling BS on this one....

Porsche claimed 33s 0-300kph for the 997GT2 530PS and it was tested at 36s

Porsche claimed 27s 0-300kph for the Carrera GT and it was tested at 34s

Maybe they have a GT2RS which has achieved 0-300kph in under 25s but it is a Porsche special car (absolute minimal spec/weight) on Porsche's special surface test track Smiley

My 660PS GT2  with DIN weight 1440kg -(real measured) will just dip under 26s and I tried many many times.........

Edit: Unless Porsche really have gone crazy and thrown in special rods and made the GT2RS into a 900NM monster AKA the Cargraphic/RS Tuning 997tt with 630PS/900NM which did 0-300kph in 23.8s.......just maybe Smiley

I was also sceptical at first. However, if you consider the shorter gearing (same top speed despite 90hp on top... See GT3 RS vs GT3...) that could reduce the 0-300 time by 2, 3 or maybe even 4s alone (I am thinking of numbers Ruf told me once regarding the Rt12 and various gearing options). But let's wait and see. Of course, "below 25s" does sound quite optimistic...

    Re: 997 GT2 RS

If this fabulous car proves out to perform as expected above, is it a product of Piech's doing?

If so, all those who said Piech would ruin Porsche for sake of his own out-sized ego have got some explaining to do!!!

I am certainly one that did not celebrate the VW takeover of Porsche. I still don't.hmmmpf.gif

It is still early days , and we don't know what the product line up will look like until after the talks (on this subject) have taken place (in about six months). I am still very concerned!

On the other hand, I was never a Weidekin fan, and I don't think that Porsche , the automaker, has lost much with him going. (and certainly not the motorsport department)

If this car is reflective of Piech's influence, then I am glad he is back. My problem with this is that Piech will not be around for ever. What next?

    Spyderidol:

There are a number of successors that are highly promising, for example Martin Winterkorn. He has been an influential figure at Audi, now being positioned at Volkswagen HQ in Wolfsburg.

Performance wise, it is interesting to see that Porsche placed the car that high inside the product lineup and I´d be curious to find out the reason behind it.

    Re: 997 GT2 RS

Winterkorn is one of my concerns. Not a Porsche guy. Audi guy through and through.

I am very, very weary of him.

Martin Winterkorn is known as a true car enthusiast. He is most interested in technology and in developing and producing the very best cars. If you ask me he is not a bad influence - not even for Porsche Smiley

    Re: 997 GT2 RS

Strange. If the number are correct that means this car priced under $250,000 is a better performer than the CGT $450,000 and the new 918 Sypder price $500,000 and up (?).

Talk about compromising your models. That list of 900 would be buyers of the 918 may have just gotten shorter.

GT2 RS disappears when parked next to the CGT, and the CGT will disappear when parked next to the 918. Performance is nearing it's plateau anyway, imo.

    Re: 997 GT2 RS

Different buyer for GT2RS and 918.

For RS the driver will need very big balls to drive at anything above 5-6/10. So it won't do for anyone with just lots of money.

918 will be a showcase of new technology and a unique shape. A showcase car for the rich collector not so much for the expert driver to throw about on circuits.
