    New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

    Hi there !

I need to change the 4 tyres of my MY07 C2S.

Apparently I have the choice between:

    Bridgestone Potenza RE050A N0 for 1011.06€

    Michelin PilotSport 2 N1 for 1205.38€

    Pirelli P-Zero rosso N1 for 1093.08€

Which one is the best tyre for performance ? For durability ?

Which one is the best all-around considering the price difference ?

Sorry I don't know which ones I have right now as I don't have the car with me...

I do not track the car at all Smiley

    Thx !

    Olivier

Re: New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

From my experience (on the 911 and Boxster) Michelin last more than Pirelli and are more consistent in their handling as they become worn. They are also little more comfortable.

Pirelli I've found are better in standing water as they inspire more confidence.

    Bridgestone, I don't know.

There is a new Pilot Sport 3 now but I don't think it has been N-rated yet.

Re: New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

I had the Bridgestone , but I did find it to be very loud .

Now with the PS 2 I am very happy. I think it is the best one.

The Pirelli does wear off faster

I go to Pneus Direct  in Renens ( next to Lausanne ) They have the best prices .

Last winter I got a pair of Pirelle Sotozerro for the back in 295 / 18 for CHF 700, including installation Smiley (  but I never got this kind of deal for summer tyres yet )

They do the job in front of me, I have been going there for the last 4 years and have always been happy. The guys do look a but rough though  and their french is quite poor  Smiley

Re: New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

Speaking of N ratings, I need a pair or rears for mine. They have PS2 (no N rating) , and PS2 R01 (Aston Martin rating) in stock. Is there any difference between these? I have N1s on the front now. The tread pattern and load rating will remain the same (100Y).

Should I go ahead and get these or wait for N1s which are back ordered and could take 3 weeks to get here?

No, not German : :  Albanian or Serb or Croatian Smiley But those are the guys who change the tyres, the guys at the frond desk speak perfectly french  Smiley

The is also this site . It is European and they send the tyres at any address you ask.

    Right :-)

The issue with buying tyres on the internet is that noone wants to install them, as their margin is too low...

Re: New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

I got Bridgestones for my Boxster S, and I found that they could not be balanced well enough (yes, a force-sensing Hunter machine was used).

I will be changing to Pirelli PS2 at the next opportunity.

Re: New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

I know I will receive a lot of flak for this suggestion.  I have owned 911s for 30 years straight and buying tires is a BIG hobby of mine as a result.  I drive all the time, all year long, everywhere - major miles!  I drive an 05 997S (launch edition).

My tires of choice, since I drive on the street and in cold weather, is the Bridgestone Ultra High Perfomance All season tire (Potenza RE960AS Pole Position).  NO, they are not N rated!  They are the correct size however, cost less than half as much and last 3 times as long!  They are also very smooth and quiet.  I have owned and used all the other tires listed here.  I simply drive too much.  I can not afford a PS2 which sounds like a truck tire after 5K miles (in the rear).

You will find that tire rack lists them for that car.  For the street you give up nothing to the other tires.  In the wet and in the cold (even snow) you will totally TOAST all the other tires listed here- but that does not matter since you are on the street and that would be NUTS anyway.

Try these tires - you will like them AND save a ton of money.  I doubt you will ever change back.

Re: New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

Interesting... anyone else here using the 'Potenza RE960AS Pole Position' tyres?

From what you say it would make sense to try them....

Re: New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

That is an interesting debate and is being held on another forum as well. Obviously the Continental DWS tire must offer outstanding performance as well. Interestingly enough high-performance allseason tires are much more common in North America than in Europe. In my eyes it clearly depends on the use of the car, I would still consider a separate set of dedicated winter tires living in climates with lots of ice and snow.

Re: New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

I'd like Porsche to specify all season tyres for sports cars as well as. Where I live winter tyres have no use at all, but on the other hand normal summer tyres are perfect in the dry but terrible in standing water. We get sudden spells of heavy rain, when roads can be filled with water in minutes. If you get caught in such weather on the motorway and your summer tyres are not brand new (7mm tread) it could be lethal. Today, it's day like that and with 4-5mm tread on my Michelin PS2 I felt extremely vulnerable at anything above 100km/h and without careful use of the throttle. Maybe what it's needed in similar climates are high performance all season tyres rather than ultra performance summer tyres. But even non-N rated all season tyres cannot be found in the Porsche sizes.

Re: New tyres for my 997 C2S MY07

My tyre reseller tells me Michelin does not have any rear N2s, and will not build them anymore, at least for a while.

This leaves me with N1s, but my Porsche dealer tells me to buy N2s as N1s will disapear... who should I believe ?

    Thx !
