    WAY:

[...] we are only three races in.  How many miles has MS done since he retired? [...]

Let´s wait until tomorrow´s qualifying. If Schumacher can improve until the middle of the season, all will be well. As you´ve said, his sabbatical years and lack of testing opportunities within the season do not necessarily help him. Both, Schumacher and Rosberg, prefer an over steering car but the former will benefit much more from it due to its driving style. If Brawn can solve this issue, and that might cause some more work since it has to incorporate weight distribution and the aerodynamic concept, both drivers will benefit from it. So, in some way, it is quite good for Schumacher that Rosberg is looking for a similiarly behaving car.

Re: 2010 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix

@Carlos: I think we see this the same way

@Eunice: of course, I agree with you - Nico isn't going to drive more slowly but normally, one would also expect to hear more from him too. Nico, however, has become more and more sensitive to the risk of the media distorting anything he says because of the extra attention caused by the fact that the 7 time champ has returned. So Nico has consciously decided to do all his talking on the track. The happy Schumi who was just happy to be back in F1 has been replaced by a more tense Schumi who is feeling the pressure of expectation on him. After all, F1 is all about delivering results.

@WAY: I haven't stated a final judgement. I said that Nico has made him look past it. That's not the same as saying he is actually past it. I also said Nico's performances have made Schumi look diminished in our eyes. Again, this is a perception we are being encouraged to form by Nico's performances. That doesn't mean Schumi is actually a diminished driver.

I have been as excited as anyone about Schumi's return. He is the most successful F1 race driver in history. It's a F1 feast for the eyes to see so many current and former champs fighting it out on track. I'm glad he's back not least for the spectacle and the entertainment value.

But from a personal perspective for Schumi, given his incomparable and majestic record, the only way Schumi can go is down given the competition he is up against. Let's be realistic, Schumi in a car that is based on the one that was fast only in the first half of last year was always going to struggle against Alonso & Massa in resurgent Ferraris and against Hamilton & Button in resurgent McLarens.

However, the real surprise has been that Schumi's young team mate who has never won a race yet has so far consistently outperformed him in both qualifications and both races.

But nothing is decided yet - Schumi still has time on his side to turn this around - but I fear that the writing is already being scrawled on the wall for what the outcome of this season looks likely to be.

But I must say, we're very lucky - because it will be fascinating for us all to see how this ultra-close season will play out to its conclusion Smiley

Hamilton on top in both Friday practice sessions.

Just to continue the earlier debate - surprise, surprise - Rosberg outperforms Schumi in both practice sessions yet again  The differences were 0.119 secs and 0.231 secs. It's not huge but it's nonetheless there.

Re: 2010 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix

Will be interesting to see if Vettel repeats pole on tomorrows Qualification, if so, then this third race may be the charm for Vettel finally, I don't think he will have technical problems three tiimes in a row and Vettel needs to take advantage of his RedBull's peformance advantage before the Ferrari & Mclaren cars catch up as the season develops. You can be sure of one thing, vettel will be a man on a mission tomorrow, his victory is past due and he knows it. But if he doesn't get the pole, then it may be very complicated for him to win though.

Yes, this theory is somewhat very true when you think about Rubens performances in the Williams, Rubens is somewhat near where Nico would have been had he still been in the Williams..If so, Schumi looks to be doing okay...

Me too, Vettel deserves to be in Ferrari. But he is very young and a long F1 career ahead of him so he will get there

Re: 2010 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix

Yup WAY - I saw that too - I felt very happy for Schumi - but remember, Schumi has been faster than Rosberg in 2 of the practice sessions this season already (before Sepang). Let's see if he can do it in qualification and the race (which is something he hasn't done so far)

Re: 2010 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix

Not a fair looking grid, a total lottery   Looks like Vettel is not the only one with bad luck so far, Hamilton will have to start form the back, and Alonso for the second time in a row now will also have to start from the back, loosing all opportunity to fight for the victory again. At least Massa won't be in the way this time. Personally I'm loking foward to seeing the progresion up the line-up from Alonso vs Hamilton vs Massa.

If it weren't for these incidents, Alonso and Vettel would be running away from the rest of the drivers with nice point cushion already , not very fair for those two drivers, but better for us fans since the championship is more open and exiting.

Schumacher over a second slower than Rosberg.... not good at all.

Oh, well, at least lets pray for rain so we can have some overtaking....

Re: 2010 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix

Not exactly how I would have liked the grid to be, but it's good to see Webber qualifying in pole.  Now don't stuff it up the way you did in Melbourne Mark!

I wonder whether MS's contract has a get-out clause by both parties? I think time is running out, so either of the two should start thinking about the possibility.
