Unfortunately one will never ever be able to find a parking lot with this car in Europe, not even starting to guess what will happen when your neighbors see that monster.

I guess I will chip in a little bit.
Instead of using normal car seats, you could use narrower versions, this here is only 17" across, on their product tag, it shows 3 of them across the rear bench. I personally have a couple of them in my cars. They are proper 5 point child seats with LATCH system.

For cars, I think the Audi Q7 is the only one with LATCH anchors in the 3rd row (not counting those ugly minivans) so you 'could' put one in the back row and two in the middle, or two in the back and one in the middle.
The latch anchors (ISOFix) aren't needed for bigger kids, hence they have enough room in a booster if the other seats AND the booster aren't too wide.

We have a Discovery (LR3) and my wife absolutely loves this car. It is less sporty then many other alternatives, but I am certain that it will haul your wife and 3 kids as a daily driver. The boot is huge and you should not be dissapointed when going skiing etc. Happy huntin, Thomas.

I will have to test drive the Discovery...even if I am a bit worried how this 2.7 t ''truck'' handles and drives

My wife didn't like the Discovery at all, her exact words were "do I look like a farmer girl to you ?". Wifes can be so cruel... 
She even had her problems with the Range Rover Sport, not "sporty" enough for her.
The same actually goes for the X5 M, she only agreed to it after she saw the trunk space of the X6 M and the other fact, that the X6 M is a 4-seater only (she wants to be able to drive around with the kids AND her parents when they visit).
I won't forget the question my wife asked when we first saw her M3 Cab at the dealer.
It wasn't "how fast does this thing go" or "how much fuel does this thing eat up".
It was the classic: "How do I look in this car ?".

just noticed this on my hard drive. This was what many americans grew up with, including myself, back before oil was a big issue and the world was different. 3 kids in the back seat - no problem, plus lots of space in back for beach stuff, camping stuff, whatever. The tailgate would swing open with an indent in the lower body as a foot step to help getting in.
It was practical and look at all the cars you guys have to discuss to fit the needs today, this also came with a 454 ci V8.
or the best, biggest US station wagon ever made the Chrysler town & country - drove in one many times - incredible car

Yes...for an additional 6500 EUR and it wouldn't have been possible to include this into the lease. 
Meaning: after 3 years, 6500 EUR gone forever.
Trunk space on the X6 is also not that usable as it is in the X5. With two kids, you need as much space as you can get and my wife hates roof transport boxes (and actually me too because it limits the top speed).

My brother in law has a farm in South Africa, a real big farm with lots of land, cows , dirt roads, snakes, and he did buy a Discovery to his wife
