Sorry for the lack of updates. I had to fly overseas again for the last 10 days on the last minute and just returned home.

Went to drive the car this morning. It isn't nearly as sporty as the X5, but I really want to add an Audi to the stable. So I told the salesman to work out a good deal for me.

This car is the one that is available right now. Bad thing is the price, $200,000 USD

If I can't get a great deal on it, then I will probably get the X5M. It's more fun to drive

I'm not sure about the X5M but i asked around and the price for the X6M over here starts at $165,000. im guessing the 5 starts somewhere close too.

Edit: just found out on the local configurator. the base price for the X5M is $157,000, and with good options you can hardly get it over $180,000

Not quite I guess: a pretty fully optioned X5 M is around 124000 EUR in Germany, before rebate. A fully optioned X5 M is almost 32000 USD more expensive in SA.

After rebate, the difference is even worse, the X5 M would be almost 70000 USD more expensive in SA because I suppose that there isn't much rebate going on in SA for the X5 M. Am I wrong ? Smiley

VAT is 14%. General income tax is 40% (that doesn't even include medical, education etc. unlike Australia).

We have a velorum tax on vehicles which can vary from 40% to 80% depending on the car.

Mike, it's similar here. Tertiary education is not included (haven't been for a long long time), and everyone who buys the sort of cars we do send their kids to private schools anyway for primary and secondary schooling (about $20k a year), and you have to pay private health insurance if you earn over $50k a year! Oh, our tax rate is 45%. I still think we are worst off financially. But hey, Australia is a damn nice country and is regularly at the top of liveable cities/countries indexes! If the car prices are like the US, it would be the perfect country.

I agree, if the govermnment can sort out it's service delivery, crime and reaccess it's taxes a bit, it would be perfect

Alas, it was not meant to be.

The Audi sales people are good, but they simply can't think out the box. Almost feel as if they lack enthusiasm.

The salesman simply stated he can't give me a better trade in price on the ML63, as the Q7 V12's are quite rare (I laughed in my mind). As if it were some Ferrari so they didn't feel the need to drop the price. The arrogance... the car has been there for months, but that's their problem. Maybe if I didn't drive the Mini there, they would have given it a bit more effort Smiley

Like I said earlier, the X5 ///M drove better in anycase. I'm kind of relieved. Guess this wasn't my time yet for Audi. Maybe it will be the R8 GT3

I called my BMW dealer (who is also our Rolls, Aston Martin dealer) and he instantly gave me a FAR higher trade in and lower sales price on the BMW X5 ///M. Stay tuned, I might have some new photos to share next week

THANKS GOD, Mike....the X5 M is a great SUV.

Recent test in german car magazine:

Audi Q7 V12

0-100 kph in 5.4 seconds

0-200 kph in 20.6 seconds

BMW X5 M

0-100 kph in 4.5 seconds (best time I've seen so far)

0-200 kph in 16.4 seconds

The X5 M is almost 300 kg lighter than the Q7 V12.

I know, I know, you just wanted to drive something special, a Diesel monster with 1000 Nm torque but the X5 M will definitely be more fun.

In 2-3 years, you can sell the X5 M and Cayenne Turbo and get a new Cayenne Turbo S.

PLEASE...lots of photos...since I get my X5 M on April 9th and I really can't wait any longer.

Imagine how relieved we are. The first automotive purchase noone on here would´ve envied you for... Smiley

I´d say, for your situation, the R8 Spyder or GT3, RS5 or RS6(+) would be much better alternatives if you are longing for an Audi.

Great choice Mike Smiley

I spent some time in Q7 (regular, 3.0 TDI) and in X5. Compared to X5, Q7 felt like a van. Already regular X5 is nice for a drive, so X5 M must be great car to drive.

Appreciate the honesty guys. I hope Audi puts that awesome engine into another range of their cars and not just limited to the Q7 like VW did witht he Touareg V10.

I'll have more info on the X5 ///M today. They have the colour I'm looking for as well!
