Wow clean lines! This car looks great. Along with a good price, wicked options and the typical sporty handling this thing will be a success! It's good to see BMW doing well, they kind of had a dip there lately..
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

The GT is so ugly, I never understood why BMW actually built this car ? For people who don't like SUVs but want more (head) room and a higher seating position ? I really don't get it.

Same here, for that price I think 7 series is better option and it also has very comfortable seating postition. Or X5 / X6 for higher seating position. People doesn't like this car, so far I have seen maybe 3 or 4 on roads.
Can't wait this week I will see new F10 5 series on premiere. But I will wait with ordering until M package is available..

I have seen quite a few of them on the streets and, judging by the drivers, they exactly hit their projected sales target. I disagree that it looks hideous, not dynamic by your standards but certainly appropriate for a considerable group of buyers. The only major drawback for me is its considerable weight over the regular 5 series. Trust me, this car will be a success over the years.
The 5-series touring is looking very promising but I have the feeling that it could visually wear out quite rapidly. We will see.
I really doubt it that the GT will be a success over the years, so far I heard only negative comments about this car and even over here in Bavaria, "BMW country", I've seen only ONE single car on the street.
When I first saw the GT live, it was at Munich airport last year. It was on display there. I wanted to take a closer look at it but my son said "yuck, this thing is so ugly, I don't want to look at it", so I just threw a glimpse at it and walked away. My son is 6.
I really can't see who drives such a car, maybe somebody in retirement who doesn't like SUVs ? Honestly, I don't have a clue.

I remember your son´s comment. 
I have seen at least a dozen of them in recent weeks and, in fact, my office neighbour just had one over the weekend. He even invited a friend to testdrive this car. He´s in his 50ies, quite active and BMW and Porsche owner. All the cars I have seen so far have been driven by men between late30ies and 60ies and across the whole country.

The 5 GT is buildt for the American market, and for cruising on American Interstates. BMW s answer to the equally ugly Mercedes R-class.
And as we all know, Americans have no taste

Yesterday I had had a little chat (or something like that) with a BMW engineer. The topic was that somebody has seen a BMW M5 F10 prototype, but only with 2 exaustpipes. And he wrote that it had at least 400hp (he drives a 530i E60N). So this BMW engineer answered it must of been a diesel. So my question was:" You are not telling us, that there will a M5d." His answer: " wait and see."

You are just begging for an argument there aren't you ?
I'm not a big fan of estate cars but this one looks great, lets see how the M5 model goes against the RS6, which was been the segment leader for quite some time now.

Thanks Ron. A very nice comparison you have put up..I am just missing the view of the back seats 
The A6, which used to be my favourite looks now suddenly dated ( the outside, specially the front)
Does anyone with 3 kids have a car like that ? How do they fit in the back with two child seats and a booster ?
