Rossi:
I was - and still am to a certain extent - a big fan of the Targa. When I was considering a new 997, the Targa was at the top of my list. My thoughts from several test drives:
Pros:
- Targa roof is great overall
- rather big opening
- still very nice when closed
- glass roof makes the cabin airy
- best of both worlds: coupé and convertible
Cons:
- sunscreen is a bit archaic, I would rather like an electrochromic glass panel like in a 575 Superamerica
- rear window vision is limited when the roof is open (you can see through, but it is limited)
- rear vision is also obstructed by the overlapping window frame
- roof often makes a rattling noise on bad roads which was totally annoying
Few additions:
The rear hatch is hugely practical. You can throw in golf backs etc. with ease. All 911s should have that.
With the roof open, there is a humming coming from the roof above 120 km/h. It comes from the negative pressure and is natural for all sunroofs but the sheer size of the targa opening makes it more noticable.
If you have (older) kids, they can't sit in the back anymore with the roof open.
If you are very tall, you have more headroom (when the roof is closed) and less when its open (doesn't slide back all the way so you could hit the back of your head.
