That's interesting news 
Will have some negative impact on resale value of existing 599 though... (resale values are already bad enough, if you ask me)

Nick, I thought that based on your knowledge of Ferrari models you will be able to deferentiate between the 599xxx and the 599 GTO. The GTO will cost between £250-£300k and not $2 million 
The GTO is faster than the standard 599 ala 0-60 and top speed !
0-200km/h time of 9,0s is impossible for a stock Enzo. This is actually official time for Edo Enzo XX with 840hp.
I have just checked a few tests and all of them actually indicates 0-200kmh in more than 9,5s. Best result from Car and Driver is about 9,7s and that is on a slightly downhill track.
0-120mph is closer to 9s of course.
But I have to agree that AMS results are utter crap sometimes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the GTO is slightly faster than the Enzo either.. could happen with the technology on board 
The stock 599 is truly impressive itself already.
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

These specs are slightly below those of the Enzo. It seems that Ferrari is doing the sensible thing and won't surpass its iconic supercar until its successor is unleashed.
A car based on the 599 platform can never get close to the Enzo. No worries. The 599 (including GTO versions) is just a very fast "truck" 
The car lacks the race car genes required for top performance on the track

Since you own/owned a 599...based on your recent posts I get the feeling that this must have been a rather disappointing experience. Care to elaborate?
I always had a week spot for Ferrari's big GTs and thought that the 599 was a masterpiece- at least that was the gist when it came out a couple of years ago.
Nowadays you can actually buy them used for Turbo money...
