Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

Beautiful !!! Congrats Mark for this great acquisition ! The car looks fantastic with this blue and the RS wheels.

Enjoy as much as you can and please don't hesitate to share with us any additional driving impressions and pictures !

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

Would you believe the weather has been so bad that I've only driven the car twice! I've managed to flatten the battery playing with the PCM in the garage, I've played with my new torque wrench to remove the extremely tight centre wheel locks and read the manuals cover to cover. All I need to do now is drive the thing and for that, we need a thaw here in the UK.

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

MarkN, why do you think that Macadamia Brown color is not good? to me it is nice and fits perfectly with sand beige interior.

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

As I said, it's down to personal preference and a brown car doesn't do it for me, though if they were the last two cars on the planet, I'd take Macadamia Brown over Nordic Gold.

For me, strong primary colours suit a 911 best and I think some of the other colours are a challenge, never more so than if you try to sell. Aston Martins are the same with their non-descript pale greens, beiges, browns.

    But that's me!

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

what are the primary 911 colours?

    black and white? racing green?

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

The most popular colours which you can see if you visit the factory and count them - are the silvers, black, white. They will tell you "white is the new silver" and popular in Japan and the Middle East.

Those 3 colours must be more than 80% of production. You see a handful of red, yellow and blue cars but hardly any green or brown ones.

When I visited Mercedes Benz in Bremen a few years ago, it was even more skewed. Just one colour - Brilliant Silver - accounted for 50% of production and Obsidian Black Metallic 20% with all the other colours fighting for the remaining 30%.

Smiley   Almost fell off my chair reading this. Thanks for the good laugh. Yes it's a matter of taste, no wrong or right, but I have to agree that Nordic Gold is a color only its mother could love.

Macademia brown? Ok no comment here because a good friend of mine, for some STRANGE reason,  likes this color, and he may be reading this forum. Smiley

i also like macadamia brown and i dont know why

i agree that it is unpopular comparing to gray, white and black...

but in emerging markets it is very popular by the way

Guys do any of you know if the Michelin sport cup tires that come on the gt3 will fit on the new turbo with the central locking spyder wheels?

    The size is as follows:

    GT3  :     8.5J x 19 with 235/35 ZR 19 tyres (front) and 12J x 19 with 305/30 ZR 19 tyres (rear).

Turbo With Spyder:  8.5 J x 19 wheels at the front combined with 235/35 ZR 19 tyres. At the rear are 11 J x 19 wheels with 305/30 ZR 19 tyres

"Only" 520 hp is rather disappointing. I guess it's true what has already been said here: Standard Turbo is the real deal, Turbo S is a bit a rip-off. And if you still want more, go for the GT2. Smiley

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

As Porsche have shown with the Sport Classic, there's a market for premium priced limited editions even in the current economic climate and (in the case of the Sport Classic) limited distribution, I assume for homologation reasons.

I can imagine a limited edition loaded-as-standard 997.2 turbo with even slightly more power and some (say) special wheels or other visual differentiator might do well.

It's difficult to imagine that more power will benefit the driving experience, the standard car is already scary fast.

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

I went for a CayenneTTS, realizing that  I was paying a premium for not that much more performance (550 versus 500HP), but I am so pleased.  Actually, if you calculate the value of the standard features on the S that are options on the CTT, the cost differential is about $8000 U.S. for the engine upgrade.  I know it was an extravagance, but what the hell.  In the movie The Magnificent Seven, when the old farmer asked Steve McQueenwhy he jumped in a cactus, McQueen replies "it seemed like a good idea at the time."

My dealer told me this morning that the new cayenne will be introduced in May. He expected the turbo s later this year.

My source told me long time ago (more than 2 years) that the turbo 997.2 will have PDK when some guys here thougth this would be impossible. This reliable source also told me that the turbo s will have 530 hp. So I still expect 530 unless marketing or Piech changed something. Smiley

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

the main question - will Porsche update the engine in Turbo S to withhold the 530 hps or not?

imho - not, but some other forum members are syaing yes. So I am in pause to choose TT or TTS

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

..would'nt be a mistake to have more than 520 hp - 550 hp might make me happy..Smiley

How Nissan achieve such refinement in performance in behond me. Even if it´s slightly slower than the Porsche King is already unbelieveble have in mind the price difference. We sgould take our hats to that, at least I do, more than a Porsche lover, I´m a sport car lover and it´s good to know the competition nowadays benefits the consumer choice and pocket. I still prefer my underpowered and overpriced Carrera S Smiley than any Nissan, but the day I put my hands in one of these beasts, for sure I´ll be surprised.

Friend of mine who is managing a driving scholl received in 2009 August two GT3 for the driving school. He was completely overwhelmed by the GT3, said he had never drove anything like it in circuit and made the Ferrari 360 Challenge looked like a completly outdated car for track use. In December he received the Nissan GT-R, and I he told me that it was the surprise of his life... "it´s so , so , so much better than the GT3 that I wont even know what to say when my clients ask for comparisations between the two... " if I say the true about these two cars, they will look at me in desbelieve, and will think they are spending their money with a moron  who don´t have a clue about carsSmiley"

Don't want to say anything bad about your friend of course - however, if he runs a driving school and really says that the GTR "is so much better than a GT3" I would be very suspicious about his driving and teaching skills Smiley The GT3 is faster, more reliable, more endurable. The GT3 is the far better track car. And frankly, the GTR owners I know would NEVER say that the GTR is "better" than a GT3... The GTR is fast for a one, two, maybe three laps, then the GTR overheats, the tires suffer due to the too high weight, the brakes are not strong enough for track use, the engine needs replacing (Nissan is calling back a significant number of cars to have the engine replaced) etc. Smiley

And the strangest thing is, why does the 4wd overheat when it's cold and in the snow (Autobild Feb 2010) Smiley

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

The GT-R is an economy solution for people who want a very fast car. It offers great value for money on the face of it, but obviously at least a part of this money has been saved by Nissan in some areas of the engineering of the car.

A simple test: "What car would someone prefer to win in a lottery or be given as present by his rich girlfreind. A Nissan GT-R or a Porsche Turbo?" I am not even mentioning the GT3!

Not really so strange. When individual wheels slip on low-friction surfaces the differentials and the brakes (due to ESP)  have to work hard to compensate.
