Two weeks with my facelifted 997.2

My first 911 was a brand new at the time 2005 911 launch car in seal gray.  My new car is a 2009,  911S in meteor gray.  Both cars look very simillar but yet they are so different. Why you may I ask did I buy another gray car ?  Well inbetween these two Porsches I had a metallic black BMW 650i as I wanted a more pratical daily driver.  While the BMW is great looking it was not exciting to drive and I missed the rush I used to get driving my 911, so here I am with the new 911 in Meteor gray which replaced the Seal gray color.  My new porsche has 60 HP more than my original 997 and better gas milage too Smiley   .  The performance difference with the sports chrono, sports PASM is very noticeable especially above 4000 rpm.  My first 2005 997 had sports chrono but it did not really make that much of a difference unlike the new 2009 997.2 .   The interior is simillar however the touch screen interface for the radio and navigation is easier to use.  This new car has satellite radio which also gives you automatic traffic re-routing with the navigation, blue tooth for the cell phone and ipod interface all luxuries not available with my original car.  The funny thing is that all these upgrades: the bigger 3.8 liter engine and the other interior upgrades after the 20 grand discount the dealer gave me brings to cost of the new car to be the same price I paid for my 2005 911.  I could not be happier and intend to pile the miles on this car over the next 3 years.  So far I have nearly 900 miles, it had 64 miles when I picked it up at the dealer. Instead of buying snow tires, I picked up a Toyota Rav4 for the snow and ice days and for throwing my road bicycle  in and skis etc. This 911 is a terrific every day car that it is fun to drive.  I look forward to my drive to and from work now Smiley

Congrats Smiley Please post more pics Smiley

Also, I'd be interested to read how you feel your two 911s have been so different from one another Smiley

Are you mainly referring to (1) the power difference between a 325PS 997.1 C2 and a 385PS 997.2 C2S, and (2) the suspension difference between the standard mechanically sprung suspension vs the Sport PASM suspension?

Re: Two weeks with my facelifted 997.2

Yes the power and suspension differences are huge.  The new car has much more torque and the car handles like the whole thing is made out of one piece of metal.  The old car was fast but it did not have as much torque at lower RPM so I used to floor it more to get it going.   I forgot to mention that the cornering xenon lights work great as well which is subtle improvement over the older xenon headlights.  When you add it all up: 60 more HP, better suspension, blue tooth for the phone, satellite radion integrated with the navigation, ipod, touch screen interface, cornering headlights it becomes quite a upgrade and with the discount it is like you get all these upgrades for a what a 5 year old base car sold for.   My only real complaint is the lack of a spare tire or run flat tires.  I feel vulnerable not having either of these and for that reason would probably not want to take this on a long trip and would therefore take my wife's BMW  535xi.   Anyone have any information on how to get a spare tire that fits this car ?  Will a 996 spare tire fit ?

Sorry if I missed something but:

Does anybody know why these wheels fit so nicely into the wheel arches? Most of the pictures of 997.1 S with the Lobster Claw wheels seem to show a car that rides way too high.

    This one looks just perfect.

    You make me jealous!

I have first to sell my 997 MK1 S before ordering the new one!

I think though that I will wait for the convertible of the next generation even if this means that I will stay about 18 months without a P Car....

    Enjoy it all the way!

Re: Two weeks with my facelifted 997.2
