    spyderidol, for sure is nothing a total new model, of course its still a boxster/cayman mixture....but how can`t you like it ???.....everyone has its own taste, but gotta say it looks just perfect and very sporty !!!

    still nobody has focused in doing a video of the roof, how its sealed , and how you put the second part of the roof, and record it from various angles with the windows up, just to see the design and how basically seals everything !

    @Alex - You can imagine how hard this is for me.

    I think that these are the reasons behind my dislike:

    1. I'm not a fan of white on sportscars. I quite like it on a 997 but no other Porsche.
    2. I'm not really into the Quasimodo look.
    3. It is sporty, but not really in a very aggressive way. It looks a little week to me.

    Anyway, thank you for understanding.

    I'm pleased that most people like it. That is good news for Porsche!

    Guys.Please don't take this badly, but this car does nothing for me!

    I'm sure that it is fantastic fun to drive and has wonderful performance, but from an aesthetic point of view, it leaves me ice cold.

    So sorry.

     It leaves me cold as well.   Would have loved this package on the Standard S, maybe convert the roof to a manual roof, but retain the same roof line.   I like the mechanical set up with the extra 10hp, 20mm suspension, etc. , and the price is a bargain compared to a similarly equipped S.

    The good thing on the economic slowdown is, that Porsche comes with all that special models because of its bad sale figures.

    Anyway - I love the sound of this Spyder, I love the roof, but somehow, I dont like this hoops on the rear. I might have to see it in Real or in a dark color. I didnt like the Sport Classic on the picture either, but in real flesh...holy moly!  One thing is for sure - this Spyder is veeeeery special

    I'm still looking for a replacement for the 987S I sold and really want to like it, and agree it will be a blast to drive and I like the new wheel design, but when looking at it I keep hearing someone say "you've officially been pimped."

    Having had two Boxsters, if I was to buy a third Porsche (probably unlikely, purely for financial reasons) ) I would have something different, either a Cayman S or used 997.2 in either case with PDK.

    However I remain very pleased with my current car and would struggle to justify the cost of changing it for something only marginally better, particularly with greedy and arrogant dealers offering low px values and even in the current climate, no discounts on new. Smiley Smiley

    dc, I agree keep your car! You have the best ever Boxster design and you have the 3.4 with a very desirable spec. There probably will never be a better sounding Boxster than the 3.4 with PSE.  There are plenty of days I wish I'd  kept my 3.2 but I got a really fair price from a private party.  Made an offer recently on a '09 997  but we were a few thousand apart and the spec wasn't good enough to go another 5k.

    Just curious, anyone know if Clarkson has commented on the Spyder? I know he loved the Carrera GT but hates the Boxster, will be interesting and probably funny what he comes up with.

    Thanks dr,j - I have never tired of the car; it gives me as much pleasure now as it did that first day I drove it away from the factory in Stuttgart, over 3 years and 20,000 miles ago. Smiley This photo was taken last year in North Yorkshire..

    This car does NOTHING for me, either.  i owned a Boxster S for 9 years and it was the finest Porsche I have ever owned.   I upgraded to a 997.1 C4S last August because I wanted a coupe and was tired of the ragtop experience.  I never liked  the "speedster humps" option on the Boxster and this car has them built in for no apparent advantage other than cosmetics.  I don't like blacked out wheels nor do I appreciate decals of any sort, especially on a Porsche .  The gimmicky door pulls are ridiculous on a street car.  How much "weight" do they really  save and how long will they last?  That top is even MORE ridiculous.  Just try to erect that contraption in a sudden downpur.  You will soon tire of that gimmick too !  It is hard to improve on the core value and engineering of the Boxster.  This car is a last ditch effort to create a "buzz" on a model that will soon be upgraded to a new bodyshell in 2012.

     Saw the Boxster Sypder at the L.A. Auto Show today and quite frankly it looks better in person than the pictures portray.      Sure wait until 2012, but this is a great car today, and may suit people in moderate climates very well.

     Having seen better pictures of the top, and in particular the installation of the second partition that seals the cabin, I am convinced that this is not a car for someone who doesn't have another car to drive on a daily basis.  I suspect that there will be a fair degree buyers remorse among those who try to substitute this car for a Boxster S and it's proper soft top as a primary vehicle.

    This car is so sweeet! I love it a true sports car, they really did make it better in many ways. It's a spyder, get over it guys, don't buy it if it rains in your area.

    First boxster under 5 seconds to 100 and has a better weight/power ratio than the 911 S. I for one am really happy porsche is offering this. Just wish it wasn't more. The guy said "why more you ask? Well you pay to go fast! " LOL not really.....

    +1.  Maybe it looks a bit like a baby Carrera GT in silver  (since so many CGT's were grey/silver). 

    Alex18, my guess is that the "cap" as Porsche call it, just seals down on the top of both the door windows, and also down on that hoop/partition thing behind the seats, simply with pressure from the roof being pulled tight onto the main hooks on the rear deck.  So there should be no big gaps, but a driving rain might get in and perhaps some extra air flow (as some have pointed out, just like the Lotus Elise top). 

    But for me this Spyder is a bit of a sign that some at Porsche can have a bit of a sense of humour and fun - this car is not designed to make sense to many drivers and Porsche does not hide this.  For a company that is sometimes criticized for being too rational (my German friend says they are sometimes too German!!)  I think this is a good sign - I am OK with a Porsche group that can once in  a while be a bit crazy..... Smiley

    GT silver or (for those that remember it on 986 / 996) polar silver Smiley but arctic silver Smiley  Personally I like the Carrera red leather, (even if SWMBO doesn't), but not with the fabulous ice-blue polar silver which looks best with ocean / sea blue leather.
