    Hello 997.2 GT3... gone C4S PDK

After trying unsuccessfully to come to terms with a recently purchased C4S with PDK (felt uninvolved with pdk), a few days ago I picked up a 2010 GT3 with the following spec:

    686 - XM Radio
640 - Sport Chrono Package Plus
    P23 - PCM 3.0 w/ Extended Navigation
XSC - Porsche Crest in Headrest
    P01 - Adaptive Sport Seats
    870 - Universal Audio Interface
    P12 - Self-Dim Mirrors & Rain Sensor
    619 - Bluetooth Phone Interface
    603 - Dynamic Cornering Lights
    490 - Sound Package Plus
    342 - Heated Front Seats
810 - Floor Mats in Interior Color

It's got the creature comforts that I want and I am very happy with the spec. Black is going to be hard to keep clean but... it looks wicked when clean! Some pics:

Great car, pity about these bumperettes. They spoil the design and I doubt if they serve any point. Can't they be legally removed?

Agree they look naff and nope can't be legally removed. I guess we all have some oddities to live with wherever we are.

Congrats on getting a great car..

Would be interested to know whether your bad experience with PDK was using buttons or paddles?

It's a long story which has led to an extensive discussion on another forum but in short its about my dissatisfaction with a C4S with PDK (buttons - which I actually think are ok) that I bought 3 months ago. I switched from a 997 TT to a 997.2 PDK and as much as I liked the car there was something missing... involvement with the car. For my purposes, my P car is a sports car and should be an event when I drive it, the PDK tranny didn't do it for me. I found it to be super quick but just not as involving as I would like it to be. I'm not going to be able to shift or go as quick as any P car is capable of but I want to have fun driving the car. The PDK'd 4S just didn't do it for me. Hence the move to a GT3. Hoorah!

In a moment of madness I felt the need to try something different... and went for a PDK C4S! I sold the 997TT a couple of months ago.

My next Turbo will be probably be a Panamera in a year. The 911's will be the GT variants.

Andrea, buckets are allowed for the USA market however my preference was to go with the adaptives due to them being more comfortable for my back. The car is going to be driven more on windy mountain roads and less on track and I'm willing to compromise a bit of weight for comfort. Plus I myself don't weigh too much Smiley

You guys are probably thinking of two different bucket seats. Smiley

The "split" bucket seat introduced with the 997 GT2 is sold in the USA. For RoW markets there is also a one-piece bucket seat available, and fitted as standard on the Clubsport cars.

Thanks for the reply Haku.  I fully appreciate your dilemma with the 'lack of involvement' issue - I've had it myself with previous cars.Smiley

As I'm currently considering a 997.2 Turbo with PDK, I'd just like to know whether you have tried PDK with paddles?  If so, did you find them equally lacking in involvement...?Smiley

    Many thanks for your help...Smiley

    Re: Hello 997.2 GT3... gone C4S PDK

John H, I have not tried the paddles and am sure they will be better. I however have concerns with pdk in general. It can make one drive the car as though in auto. Don't get me wrong, I know for sure that the tranny is superfast and cannot be matched by manual trannies but it just depends on the experience and the driving one wants. I will one day get a pdk but not unless I have a manual sitting in the garage too. I think the 997 TT is going to be better suited for a pdk due to the enormous power you can put down but I would reccomend that one test drive and tries to live with a pdk 997 before buying one. To pdk or not is all about the experience one wants. Do you want to make each drive an event or just plain quick and fast speed. This is just my 2p's worth and not dissing pdk in any way.

    Re: Hello 997.2 GT3... gone C4S PDK

    Congrats, beautiful choice.

Right now I'm in a "dilemma" myself. I don't feel connected to my 997 Turbo anymore, simply because I don't have time to drive it. I would love to get myself a 997 GT3 RS but can't afford it right now. The Panamera Turbo is another wishful thinking because it is too expensive, too "shiny" for the region I live in.

Bottom line is: I think I'm going to end up with a BMW X5/X6M and a 991 Cab in the end. Not sure if this combo will be my favorite choice but since I can't afford to keep a garage queen anymore (997 Turbo or hence...the dream 997 GT3 RS), I have to make different choices.

    Maybe I'm just getting old...

The 7 th gear will have the car running at 900 rpm at 60 MPH like in a Corvette , probably, with zero acceleration ability.  OTOH, imagine  30 mpg on the hiway!

Beautiful car , BTW. have fun !
