    It's clear that some of the difference is because standard options AND a full metal body BUT perhaps the 8speed auto gearbox is heavier than the old 6 speed auto also.

    Also what bugs me is that according to BMW press release, the doors of the F10 are made of aluminium, saving 23kg!!!

    I quote: "For the first time the doors of the BMW 5 Series Sedan are made of
    aluminium, reducing weight by approximately 23 kg or 50 lb versus a
    conventional structure. The front side panels, the engine compartment lid
    and a large number of the front and rear axle components are also made
    of this particularly light metal."

    One last thing: F10 Length/width/height (unladen) mm 4899 / 1860 / 1464

    E60: 4841 / 1846 / 1468

    Difference: +58 / +14 / -4 mm

     

    F10 Wheelbase mm 2968

    E60 Wheelbase mm 2888

    Difference: +80 mm

     

    F10 Track, front/rear mm 1600 / 1627

    E60 Track, front/rear mm 1558 / 1581

    Difference: +42 / +46 mm

    Weight, unladen, EU (not DIN !!!), (manual/8speed-auto):

    F10 523i: 1650/1725kg

    F10 528i: 1655/1730kg

    F10 535i: 1700/1775kg

    F10 550i: 1845/1920kg (estimated from DIN weight +15 kg)

    F10 520d: 1645/1720kg

    F10 525d: 1705/1780kg

    F10 530d: 1720/1795kg

     

     

    I made an error on this post, the correct weight of the F10, according to EU regulations is:

     

      F10 manual  F10 auto
    523i 1700 1725
    528i 1710 1730
    535i 1760 1775
    550i   1905
    520d 1715 1720
    525d 1765 1780
    530d 1790 1795

     

    I was mixing DIN and EU weights, sorry :)

    Are you absolutely sure you got the numbers right ? I haven't looked them up but I don't remember such a hefty weight addition. As far as I remember, the weight difference on the 550i is 95 kg only.

    So, as a conclusion, yes RC, the info is correct. The 95 kg difference you talk about is between E60-550i EU unladen weight of 1735kg and the F10-550i DIN unladen weight of 1830kg. The EU, F10-550i unladen weight is 1905kg so +170kg.

    First video from AutoBild, they specifically mention the remarkably comfortable ride (while retaining a crisp handling) and the weight increase:

    Wow, thats really a difference. I know how the difference of 200 kg between the M3 Coupe and my wife's M3 Cab feels, so this really sucks. According to Autobild, the weight increase can't be felt but I bet that the performance suffers. No wonder BMW used more powerful engines in most models.
