Of course, I do not agree with you at all.

Did you audition 458 Italia exhaust note in person? NO? When you hear it in person you will probably change your mind. IMHO it sounds just right.

599 looks good? OK.... I guess...

Back to sound-997.2 GT3 sounds better? Hmm... Again, you had a chance to auditon 997.2 GT3 is person? It sounds to my ears just like beefed up Carrera S to me...

Re: Rennteam's tribute to the Ferrari 458...lots of photos, videos, etc.

I'm with you. I don't like it. I don't care how great tech it has, I can't get over it's looks.

And I sat in it. Still nothing. I waited months maybe I change the way I feel. Still nothing. The back it's horrible! The triple exhaust a non-sense since it's not a turbo like the F40 was! The side lines are going down not up! The front looks like it's designed by somebody else from scraps of another car! I hate it! This looks like a technical design! I was used with a tad more emotional design on a Ferrari!

It's a busy design with an Asian touch. It's less masculine and more feminine. It's more of a GT than a raw machine. It doesn't make me feel like the 360 and 430 made me feel when I first saw them.

I gave up my allocation number (I was the first). If I can afford I will keep the Scuderia as much as possible. If not, I will go back to my beloved 911.

Re: Rennteam's tribute to the Ferrari 458...lots of photos, videos, etc.

I have issues about the car styling as well. I probably will not decide until I get the call to order. I am really sitting on the fence on this car. Part of my problem is do I want to spend that much money on a car that I will not drive that often and  cannot fully enjoy what it has to offer given traffic and police monitoring issues.

Is it enough just to say you own one?????

    NO. Simple as that.

If you want it because you want what is IMHO the best modern Ferrari-then get it.

If you want it because you plan to drive it ocassionally in true spirited way-then get it.

    Issues with 458 Italia design?Smiley

For example I never liked F430 or 430 Scud. To my eyes Audi R8 looked better(and still look better then F430).

But, taste is very, very subjective thing..

Re: Rennteam's tribute to the Ferrari 458...lots of photos, videos, etc.

I like the R8's design too but that car doesn't cost what the 458 Italia cost!

For me the R8 V8 is a competitor for a CarreraS and the V10 for a Turbo.

If I am going to fork out that kind of money I want more on everything: performance, driving pleasure, exclusivity (on those the 458 Italia delivers but so a Turbo where I live), etc etc AND style AND emotions. That's why they call them SUPERCARS.

For 220.000 euros or more, I do not accept doubt like: "I like it BUT...". No BUT's at such price.

When I bought the Scuderia that's how I felt. This car makes me having second thoughts. For such price I consider this unacceptable.

Re: Rennteam's tribute to the Ferrari 458...lots of photos, videos, etc.

For me personally there is no BUT regarding 458 Italia. It is the first modern Ferrari that I really like very, very much.

If you want my honest opinion I think that 997.2 Turbo PDK, Mercedes SLS AMG and 458 Italia are more or less in the same class.

Porsche is performance bargin since it is 30K € less then 458 with same options. SLS AMG is on the other hand at the same price level as 458...

458 Italia is technical tour de force and at the same time emotional as Ferrari can be. Even my wife said to she likes 458. Interesting enough she do not like F430 or 599 for example. 458 is for her:"...just macho enough unlike F430 which is like Gallardo too much macho."

I think that some Ferrari enthusiasts will in the end get something like Gallardo SL(new one from April 2010) or 997.2 GT3RS since they want raw machine. NOT really amazing sportscar(supercar if you want) that can be even used as DD-and that car is IMHO 458 Italia.

Or they will just wait for the hard core Scuderia version Kreso. From what I hear the standard 458 is very hardcore as it is though.

PS: I too think that this car is stunning. It's predatorial and emotional, a true supercar!

Re: Rennteam's tribute to the Ferrari 458...lots of photos, videos, etc.

I certainly agree it is the best modern Ferrari. I also agree he has the passion of a Ferrari. What I am having difficulty with is usability. Will you or anyone else be able to make use of the full performance parameters of the car on public streets. My guess is no.

So if you decide to own one, it would be for the sake of ownership and nothing else. Smiley

Stefan, You're right most high performance cars do not allow a river to maximize performance on public streets. The difference is cost. Whereas with a Porsche I can track it (which I did several times when I own one) that is not the case with the 458 because the cost is prohibitive. The new Porsche turbo probably will have similar if not better performance parameters for about 1/2 the cost. Of course, it will not have the passion and WOW factor of a Ferrari.Smiley

Nick , I think most of us here are experienced enough to know that you can't even use a current model Toyota Camry or ANY " sports car " of the last 40 years at 10/10ths of it's abilities on any public road with head -on traffic , so that reason shouldn't  be used in  declining a car .

I would argue that these newer cars with all their electronic " diapers " allow relatively inexperienced drivers to enjoy non-timed track days more than ever in a manor that gets car and driver home safely to waiting loved ones  . Imagine how much of a " hair shirt " one had to have to go 10/10ths just 2 decades ago : such as the  famed 1987 Ruf CTR Yellow Bird with Stefan Roser going around the 'Ring mostly sideways at 150 mph in turns !

Re: Rennteam's tribute to the Ferrari 458...lots of photos, videos, etc.

Not everyone like a new car... whats the point of saying "i don`t like because of this or because of that.." to other persons who like a car simply because they like... an only that... it`s always a subjective matter... Not mention that this new F458 is far way from any other Ferrari (power, technology,...) For me, i have a dream car... the 911... i will allways remember the frist day i saw one... more then 20 years ago (a 911 3.2 Carrera)... that image will allways be on my mind... i don`t care that persons say that today the 997 have an old design... to me it`s perfect... The same happened with other car that will always be on my memories... an 308 GTS... When i saw this car (F458) on real (IAA Frankfurt) i had the same feeling when i saw the 308 GTS... I felt like a kid again... i almost cry desiring to touch the car like a kid would do... To me liking a car the main reason it`s not how many tenths of a second it will go faster on track... it`s also relevant to me, but not the most important... to me, the main reason it`s how a car awakens that feeling... like a kid again... with is favorite toy... So if someone say to me that they don`t like a bit a car that that i like it a lot... i don`t care, i respect all opinions... to me it`s not only from outside that i like a car... it`s also from inside... of me...

Re: Rennteam's tribute to the Ferrari 458...lots of photos, videos, etc.

IMO the 458 Italia is not beautiful or even good looking.

What it is, is spectacular, striking and sensational and I wonder why many people confuse these attributes with good looks. These attention attracting characteristics are what the average Ferrari owner asks for.

Sure this car will arouse interest and strong curiosity and reaction because of its exaggerated details wherever it is parked, especially outside the hotels, night clubs and casinos where the average Ferrari-playboy owner frequents.

So in conclusion this Ferrari is an extremely successful design for those who are attracted by this sort of unusual and conspicuous car. For me (and many others) it does nothing. Give me a 997.2 Turbo PDK with all the performance goodies and keep the change.
