Lotus Scoops EVO Car of the Year Double

The Lotus Evora takes the title of ‘EVO Car of the Year 2009’, with the Lotus 2-Eleven winning the prestigious ‘EVO Track Car of the Year 2009’ competition.

Re: Lotus Scoops EVO Car of the Year Double

Just finished reading latest EVO with ECOTY 2009.

    Evora Car of the year...

Do not get me wrong since I did not drove Evora BUT... EVO credibility goes to WC IMHO.

World recesion or not complete article is somehow strange and akward, again IMHO.

Read it anyway and make your own judgement.

Re: Lotus Scoops EVO Car of the Year Double

    Only in the UK .

Jaguar and Lotus are suddenly the cars of choice according to the UK Press.

Pity that the ROW who decide with their own money don't agree.

It's not where you're going, it's how you get there that counts

Re: Lotus Scoops EVO Car of the Year Double

I've tried an Evora and was unimpressed.  Whilst the steering feel, ride and handling were good, the motor is utterly gutless.  The car should never have won on this alone. How one can compare a car with a stone age Toyota Camry V6 and Toyota Avensis gearbox with the magnificent piece of engineering that is the GT1 3.8 is beyond me.

The UK motoring mags are losing the plot bigtime - too many union jack waving beards writing for them - same story with the Jaguar XFR reviews.  At least Chris Harris has turned up at Evo and knows his stuff.

Re: Lotus Scoops EVO Car of the Year Double

The Evora wins simply because it's up against cars which are decades old in terms of chassis design and structural rigidity. How many decades did it take to get a 911 to near perfection as it is today? (Haven't read the article, but I'm guessing it's the usual suspects).

All the competition have fantastic engines (most unbelievable!) complemented with superb engineering to gives what is an overall well developed package (at great expense).

Lotus rock-up with bugger all $$$ and create a platform that is so rigid and strong and well-balanced that it leaves all other manufacturers scratching their heads.

Sure it's not fast, or particularly light, but by all accounts it's pretty good where it acccounts. For too long the big manufacturers have gotten away with taking a cheap (usually) old, or even borrowed platform and putting in a 9,000,000 bhp engine and calling it a supercar.

For a roadcar, driver feel and feedback should come first, then weight, then power. Of course, the opposite is usually the norm today.

Re: Lotus Scoops EVO Car of the Year Double

Sorry ACP but you need to drive both cars rather than your keyboard.  If you spoke from a position of any experience, you would know that the Evora is just far too slow.  I respect feel and feedback like you but it needs to be allied to a proper motor - go try one back to back with a GT3 rather than your computer

Re: Lotus Scoops EVO Car of the Year Double

True (easier said than done though), but for you the results speak for themselves unfortunately, by people who have done just that.
