    Supertest of Gumpert Apollo Sport

This car is quite fast: 700hp, test weight approx. 1450kg (too heavy I think for an extreme car like this...), Michelin Cup:

    0-100: 3.9s

    0-200: 9.5s

    200-0: 131m

    HHR: 1.07,2 Smiley

    NBR: 7.24

A race car which obviously has very limited use for public roads. I just think the car is too heavy for its purpose - and its price: approx. Euro 450.000.

Hypothetically, a CGT on tires of current production should be faster...

Re: Supertest of Gumpert Apollo Sport

Its 0-200 time is on a par, if not slower, than a 7 year old Enzo on tyres of that era that provide much less traction than today's tyres.

For comparison: Marc Basseng did a back-to-back comparison of Enzo, CGT etc. on the NBR last year. The Enzo time on the NBR was (from my memory) some 7.26. Thus, not only 0-200kph performance is on the same level - despite the advanced tire technology SmileySame applies to the CGT.

Given current market prices I would clearly prefer a used (low mileage) CGT to a Gumpert...

Re: Supertest of Gumpert Apollo Sport

Gumperts obviously don't last - technical problems...on engine n drivetrain according to a Swiss friend who sold his rather quickly

The Enzo was just... out of this world! Even on stock 050 Bridgestones it was clocked at less than 9s for the 0-200 km/h dash! Smiley Fitted with modern tyres it would do wonders! That all-mighty

V12, having to shift only 1250kg of weight is a combination that even now, the best part of a decade after its launch, is as fierce as any car short of an FXX or a Caparo T1.
That used Carrera GT is also fantastic. Not as fast or powerful as an Enzo but sweet as a wet dream! Smiley

I cannot fully agree with you. The Gumpert has clocked 7:11 on the Nordschleife with Gruber at the wheel (with him stating that there is room for improvement), compared to 7:25 and 7:28 for Enzo and CGT driven by Basseng.

As von Saurma stated in the article, he only used his regular two laps to get acquainted with the car (warm-up lap and timed lap),  an approach that might work on a Corsa GSI but not on such a car. So I have difficulties to take his laptimes into consideration this time.

Admittedly, the Carrera GT is a gorgeous car and I would also consider this one sooner than the Gumpert but there is, apart from the state of tire technology, a difference in performance that is due to the Gumpert´s more radical layout. I even assume the gap between these cars, given more track-focussed tires or even slicks, would increase.

As a sidenote, I have never seen an Enzo accelerate below 10 seconds to 200 kph. Smiley

You believe that a CGT on current production tires would not be faster (or at least as fast) as the Gumpert? Tires are probably the key factor in comparing the various lap times circulation around (including this 7.11...). Of course one could argue that no more up to date tires are available for the CGT or Enzo - which would make the Gumpert relatively more attractive.

To be honest, of all three cars I´d certainly consider the CGT the most attractive for me personally (looks, sounds, performance). However, I´d be surprised if that car would perform better than 7:15 min. with current tires on the Ring, does anybody have performance information for Manthey´s 18" wheel setup on the CGT?

One should not forget that the Gumpert is very heavy (1500 kg) for a car of this type, I assume most of its advantage comes from aerodynamics and uncompromised layout (center of gravity, suspension etc.). After all, Roland Gumpert has played a significant role in Audi´s history of rallycars so he knows what he´s doing.

By the way, I do not think that the Gumpert or the Radical can be fully compared with each other or other sportscars, they have a very constrained focus on performance. Smiley

Re: Supertest of Gumpert Apollo Sport

Personally, I do not regard the Ring as a fair comparisson ground for supersport cars as it is way too undulating. All three (Enzo, GT, Apollo) are uncompromised but perhaps a bit too hard riding and low for the Ring. And yes, I too think that on current tyres both the Enzo and the GT would be quicker than the Apollo. As much heritage as Gumpert might have, F and P have at least 100 times that!
