Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

Other forums have special "NEW MEMBER" and saying "HELLO"" areas on the forum specifically designed to introduce new members. Sometimes it is even mandatory to say hi on there before mods will activate your account. At and rate, i think that could help. Because saying hi and explaining your car passion, cars owned and area of residence will instantly link you with others and create the first contact.

I would LOVE to see a garage thin added to all profile pages. Right now that is missing, and you can see the need in that peoples signatures have become their garage. And this is good IMO because it helps identify and relate.

Everyone should be welcomed but if some make false claims or have additude i also think the forum should allow for natural selection so to speak.

Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

I just read what had been posted since my last post, and the first thing that came to mind was (and please excuse me) "Hmmm.... Boring......".

Have we become too politically correct? Is it possible that, while we all consider ourselves ladies and gentlemen of appropriate candor and consideration, that we've self-governed the energy out of Rennteam discussions?

Just a thought, I'll pour some coffee, talk amongst yourselves... No big whoop....

posting on here was a challenge for a while, that's the reason my posts dried up!!

Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

Well, I didn't intend to be mean-spirited or insulting, I was just making the point that there hasn't been much showing up on the menu of threads that perks my ears. And what threads I do dive into, aren't terribly compelling.

We were hell-bent-for-leather back in '04-'05 when so many of us had our orders in, then received the cars, then discovered the cars, and the heavy activity bred some really funny and entertaining and sometimes highly illuminating discussions.

Just look below at what's on the menu.... I'm not inspired, not interested in paddle shifters (come to think of it, it was PDK musings that really kicked-off my boredom with the site, debates and discussions about clutchless shifting is kinda like chatting about electric razors to me...), I don't care that the Lexus LF-A is revealed, photos of random cars don't require comment, and the Panorama is too ugly to compensate for however nicely it drives.

Nothing here for a jackass like me to sink my teeth into!!

Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

@69bossnine: you were away from RT for a very long while - many regulars here missed your wit, wisdom, perceptiveness and charm - me included - then something made you come back.

Personally speaking, I'm glad you're back

Anyway, while you were gone, RT didn't stay frozen in time. It kept on changing. Sure, there were technical issues. But they have been fixed. Eunice has made the site work better than it ever did.

And if there is one person who can really vouch for how the site worked before and how it works now, it's me. Believe me, I know. I have posted some of the longest threads ever posted on this site. Anyway, this site works better than ever thanks mainly to Eunice and all the debugging that so many other people here helped to do.

Moving on, regulars here don't keep going on and on about the technical issues because we have got past those ages ago. It's only the 'returners' who are still preoccupied with that.

As for the content on the site, you say it's boring. Well, I have to say, I don't share that view.

Let me put forward an idea for you to mull over. Have you asked yourself whether it's the content you find boring or is it just down to you? Don't get me wrong man. After all, I remember that many of the topics that you posted on before were to do with cleaning cars, the joys of a manual gearbox, drag-racing between the lights, muscle cars and after-market modifications. Those subjects are just 'fine and dandy' but we're a broad community and other stuff interests other people here that may not necessarily interest you. Things move on. People move on. New people come. But, in the bigger scheme of things, it's all good.

What has changed for everyone is the level of excitement we feel. We have enjoyed our 997s, talked about every aspect of them till there's nothing more to say. We live in a global recession. People are losing their jobs. How many people are buying new cars compared to 2-3 years ago during the good times?

Just thinking out loud here. Interested to hear your thoughts

But like I said before, I for one am really glad you came back  Your style has always been unique

Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

    Hi all!

I believe the main reason is the new layout of the forum

I preferred the old style a lot

    Cheers

    Gregor

Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

I agree that the forum is working quite well, and it's easy to post pictures, etc....

My boredom with the topics is less due to the membership being uninspiring, and more due to the 997 being fairly "talked-out" I suppose.

I never totally left, just wasn't seeing anything that I had much input on, and my frequency of checking-in on the menu of topics dropped back to once a week, then once every two weeks. I'm only posting now because somebody bumped a topic I was on long ago to the top, and then I landed here...

I'm over the old forum style, the new one is just fine, just not finding much to opine about.

Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

People lose interst and leave.  I find that my interest and participation waxes and wanes depending upon what's new in general and with my car in particular. People do become bored. Art Buchwald decided to forego dialysis and die (which takes ba**s to see through to the end), and when asked what he'd miss most he said "global warming". Maybe it's the bad global zeitgeist?

I think the level of maturity and knowledge on this site are very great.  The previous V.1 of this site was very user friendly and I was in and out quickly.  V.2 takes a great deal of time to load pages and is slower to navigate.  Hence I usually visit Rennteam and Rennlist.  I believe the quality, and gentlemanly behavior make me keep coming back, plus their is real genuine insight on this forum.

Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

There was a time when I would go out of my way to post pic's from an auto show or a weekend drive or trip abroad. Sometimes I think about doing it again but don't bother because it doesn't seem to be appreciated as much as it used to. Same with the off topic... I've read too many threads where a good percentage of the posts are people writing about how much they dislike the content. Also, there are a core group of long time members on here who stick to their own crowd and don't make anyone else feel welcome. That goes back to newbies posting questions that nobody bothers to answer, or if they do answer they make the original poster feel like an idiot. There is a real negativity on here lately, perhaps due to the economic climate and strains at work? I don't know... perhaps that will change as things pick up economically. I'm hoping so anyway.

Joe, you as well as the rest of us are making too much of this issue. I have been engaged on chat sites for over 10 years and what RT is experiencing is not uncommon. What we all need to guard against is creating monsters where none exist. Everyone should chill and continue to post whatever they feel is relevant.

There are very few posts that get five stars and the influence meter is always hovering near 50% at least in my case.Smiley Nevertheless, I will post when I feel I have something of interest regardless if on occasion (50%Smiley) it isn't well received.Smiley

Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

Yeah, I agree. My point is only that some of the enthusiasm is gone, perhaps because of the gloomy economic situation and the fallout from that. Better times are ahead and I'm sure Rennteam will pick up in the coming months. I think people still come here but too few people post anything.Smiley

Re: Why so few people are now posting on Rennteam ?

It's going to be 7 years since I joined RT and it is true that lately I didn't felt like posting.

May be RT is too "high performance" versions oriented .... Boxster & Cayman sections are deserted along with "regular" (ie poor man's) 997.

I'm a Porsche classic enthusiast and clearly RT is the wrong place to post.

    Just my 2 cents

You rise  point here, in fact RT has never been a place for classic Porsche, for those subjects Rennlist is king, but I wouldn´t agrre that it´s a place for high end cars either. I stand by what I´ve said ealier, it has to do with model cicles and members nature.
