OK straight to the point, new stock ZR1 best times. We believe these times may be the quickest recorded 1/4 mile ETs for any stock production car:
10.851 @ 129.89 mph 100% bone stock on factory tires, driven by racerns
10.730 @ 132.46 mph stock on drag radials, driven by Ranger (read below for story, time slips, and videos)

Was wondering what the chase car could be in the first vid. Was it the SV from the 2nd vid you think? How'd they only have the ZR1 sound though? The ZR1 has a Ferrari' esque sound track.

No one's put a Veyron on the 1/4?
How about a Saleen S7 Turbo?
I don't doubt it but it's surprising to me that the ZR1 would hold that honor. Cool. I'd love to own one. Definitely in Black.

on the first vid you hear the LP670 engine sound because the camera is mounted on the back of the lambo
on the 2nd vid you are inside the ZR-1 and you hear the vette sound
Both videos are of the same lap of the ZR-1 following EASILY the LP670 SV
Both cars sound great, but notice on the uphill section how the ZR-1 almost leaps past the lambo

I saw a ZR-1 on the road about a month ago. I agree with the Tom; it REALLY looked good. It had a very classy but aggressive looking posture which made it look like a very expensive sport car. Regular Vet's do not exude that aura.
BTW, I believe the ZR-1 quarter time is faster than the Enzo and Carrera GT. Not bad for a $100,000 car.

Not really. First and foremost it is a traction issue. The Enzo and the Carrera GT were launched 7 years ago; today's tyres are so much better! Also launching from a rubber laid drag strip changes things completely. The Enzo was timed at slightly less than 11s with its 050 Bridgestones on a normal runway but with today's tyres (Pirelli Corsas for example) and on a drag strip it's way superior power to weight ratio should easily settle the score.

this is really cool kind of the ultimate experience for a car nut - Chevy has introduced an option for the Corvette ZR-1 maybe other vettes also where
you can build your own engine
it is a $5,800.00 option on the ZR-1. Tops the factory collection by a bit I would say. That car would be a keeper. Very cool idea, anyone thinking of a vette anytime soon should sign up.

Yes a nice option indeed, but dang that's expensive at $5800!!! It's also offered for the Z06 as well, which has its LS7 engine built at the same facility in Wixom, Michigan. Interestingly, the non-convertible Corvette GS has its LS3 engine built there as well, with a dry-sump oil system, but you don't have the build-your-own-engine option available for that car...

Actually I think it's inexpensive when you examine the reasoning. the uniqueness, and priceless memories you will take with you.
GM is charging this price for 2 reasons - #1- you will be slowing down a highly skilled technician costing them a days productivity - and #2- they are thinking they want to cover the cost of a future crate engine since they will guarantee the product that you "build". Not to mention any insurance/union grief this might cause.
For the customer, this is the equivalent of a sports fantasy camp with a lasting, functioning result. Working in such a facility, making sure everything is just right on your engine, and then everytime you nail the throttle over the next 20+ years it gives you a sense of pride that "I did that". No more blaming that slob who built it. That slob was you.
I think this is a great idea for everyone, customer and GM, and I would jump at the chance if I were contemplating a vette purchase. I have experience on my car pulling the engine and disassembling a spare engine I have and it is a whole nuther level to the car experience.
