Any members who have owned (or own) examples of each manufacturer who can add to this hot (but I must admit pointless) debate? One saying that the other car is crap is just being ridiculous.
Please remember Jeremy Clarkson's opening comment - you have 2 types of enthusiasts - the Ferrari lovers and the Porsche lovers. That just says it all - one won't be able to convince the other at all. (Can you convince a Man-u fan that Arsenal is better?!) Even though Clarkson admitted the Turbo was a superb practical, everyday supercar, and he loved it, it will still not make him into a Porsche-phile.
I for one would love to own a Ferrari at some point of my life just to know what all the fuss is about!!
Incidentally, my cousin has a 348 and now has bought a brand new 911 Turbo, and though he loves his Ferrari more than anything, he just ends up driving the Turbo more!
EXACTLY.
And... Clarkson's wrong, there's a 3rd type... Like you imo it's hard for me to understand how any car nut that can really appreciate Ferrari or loves Porsche's doesn't/ can't see or understand the draw of the other. It's impossible for me to think that anyone that puts one on a pedestal and the other in the basement has actually spent any real ownership time with both, imho we're talking about the 2 best sports cars in the world.. And there's no way you get a true feeling for a car after a test drive or 2, especially w/ the owner in passenger seat.. Even after months of ownership, driving the car constantly you're still learning things about the cars handling, getting better at driving it, etc, especially cars of this caliber where the handling limits are so high, how can anyone make determinations after a drive or 2........... Maybe it becomes about defending a choice that's already been made. But imho Tom & trip are BOTH right.
The 911 (owned 3 since 2002 - 996 Turbo, 997 S Cab, 997 Turbo Cab) is the best all around sports car you can buy, imho, nothing does it all like a Turbo cab, it's like the Swiss Army knife of the sports car world...... but......... there's nothing like the 8 cyl Ferrari (owned 2 since 2004) on the open road, the feel of the Ferrari, the handling, the confidence at speed, etc is in another league, the faster you go on the open road the more it all comes together as it was meant. Everyone's already heard the same comparison's so put it this way - The Turbo is like the trusty girlfriend who attends to your every need, she's the one to have around most of the time ,,,,,,,, the Ferrari is like the smokin hot girl you met at a rave on E, lol! Why only desire one? ....... ..........I've loved reading this thread, it's been great.
