looks like a facelift with MB new lights and bumper. Shouldn't the CLS be more exotic and out there.
PS: BMW 5GT. Audi Sportback A5.... where is the new R-Class?

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

they should drop the R-class, its horrible, and i hardly see any on the streets or know of much people who bought them. anyone has the numbers? i could be mistaken but i think that car was not a good seller.

Yeah this is very true, i barely ever seen them here. But the segment is on the rise and especially the Asian market wants these bigger SUVs type station wagons. It's just weird how MB is not going after it with a new model.

I ve seen this test car in flesh some days ago. Very disappointing, the specialty is gone. By now you are used to the CLS and it doesnt appear that kind of different anymore. And - the new model - will be more streamlined back to any other "replaceable" Mercedes. Sad!

Well Lars, buy a current example and salt it away un-driven in your garage as a collectors item for 20 years.
As the CLS has been one of my favorite designs since its debut I will not comment on this successor until I see the final version.
But the CLS itself was a continuation of the beautiful pillarless swooping roofline that started on the clk some years ago. It has now been shared with the new E coupe and made that a much better looking car. So mercedes has to freshen/expand that design without killing it.
There was a thread here a year or so ago with pics of the proposed new CLS posted by Ron I think that looked good with main change being larger wheel wells.

yepp - this is a great video and an classy beautiful car! Loving it!
I still remember the moment when I have seen the CLS first on the IAA some years ago. It was red and had white club lounge seats inside. WOW.... what a beau. From that moment I was falling in love.
On the successor, I just think they go back to to much sharp lines and edges. The CLS is a beau because of its roundish and so different shapes. Hopefully they dont loose it!
