991: new renderings and specs (AB Sportscars article)

Hi all, like already mentioned by Christian here:

    http://www.rennteam.com/forum/page1.html?vs=15

rumors about the 997 successor (991) are spreading.

In the recent issue of Autobild Sportscars there is an article with some renderings (source unknown, guess they are just some phantasy of the journalists) and quite some infos about the tech details of the future 911 generation. Again, the source of this information is unclear (like always AB tries to create the impression that it's "official" information Smiley).

Anyway, I thought it may be interesting stuff for some discussions

    Facts & Figures:

    • debut at IAA 2011
    • shorter overhangs (especially at the front)
    • much more accentuated C-pillar
    • wider rear
    • wheelbase + 10 cm
    • center of gravity moves more to the middle of the car
    • roomier cabin, especially in the rear
    • new suspension + aluminium chassis
    • better stability at high speed / improved aerodynamics
    • rear spoiler á lá Panamera
    • generally more quality materials in the interior
    • less, but larger switches / central switch concept á lá BMW/AUDI
    • new steering wheel/paddle design
    • torque vectoring
    • 7 speed manual gearbox
    • electronic servo steering
    • keyless go
    • automatic start/stop engine system, brake energy generator
    • electronic parking brake
    • weight: minus 40 kg compared to 997
    • 19" wheels (Carrera), 20" wheels (Carrera S)
    • Carrera engine: 3.4 L / 350 hp / 350 nm
    • Carrera S engine: 3.8 L / 400 hp / 440 nm
    • Engine sound: less noisy under partial load, more “sonorous” under full load
    • Fuel consumption: minus 10% compared to 997

I like it too. (I am not completely sure about the front)

Re: 991: new renderings and specs (AB Sportscars article)

Happy that so many Rennteam members find this "interpretation" acceptable. Unfortunately I do not. The spoiler seems odd on the Panamera and completely out of place on the 911.  The front clip looks like it's trying to be an Audi. The melding of the engine cover seams w/ the rear clip is angular and unaesthetic. If this is close to reality then hopefully I'm in a small minority who find the styling unsatisfactory.

I don't like the look of the renderings but I expect the real 991 to look very different from this

Poor photoshopping prediction  . This car looks " older " than current generation 997.2 .  Plus , this rendering has managed something I didn't think was possible on  a 911: design in a " Bangle Butt" lid :

Re: 991: new renderings and specs (AB Sportscars article)

i like how the c pillars give it a ''spine'' look. makes the whole rear look integrated and powerful.

7 speed manual would be great!  Some of the other items are a bit worrisome...

Here is my 1 year old sketch.... im hoping for something like this instead.
Also i dont think Carrera will go back to 3.4L as Carrera S will get a 4.0L

    My specs:
    - 7 speed manual
    - shorter overhangs
    - bigger wing in the back folding up
    - Torque vectoring
    - better stability
    - better acceleration
    - all new interior
    - GT4 version priced below Carrera with NO int. options "race-car for the poor"
    - 150kg lighter

+1, nice detail. the back looks very promising but the front could use work.

Will it have styling clues in the interior of the Golf 7? SmileySmileySmiley

3.4L?  Can this be the 911 light that was mentioned before?  Will this replace the Cayman?  A 3.4 911 in the price range and equipped simple as current Cayman S, now this have a good potential to become a common-man's 911 (there is no such thing as poor-man's 911).

I've always liked Golfs and this new GTI is a top car for the real world Smiley.

The standard number-plate frame on the bumper, is too big for Italian plates. VW must do something about it!

The front isn't quite accurate (frontlights should be smaller) but the rear is pretty close.

Engine figures are also not quite right but the Carrera S will definetely have a 4 in the beginning.

A "cheaper" 911 was rumored for a while but I think it will be rather a 997special  model than a 991 model with permanent existence in the 911 model line.

I would expect it to end up between the 997 MkII Carrera S X51 and the 997 MkII GT3. Historically the power has been, as by coincidence, in this area for all 911 facelifts and generations Smiley
