Guys, 790 Nm is confirmed for 100%.

So pls think it over if it is tunable enough for your wishes...

Manual is the same as it was in 997.1 Turbo

Gregg and Reginos, you are BOTH right!

I have no doubt testing for reliability and making sure that the PDK could handle the torque have caused the delayed introduction of PDK. I am sure PAG has been watching the fiasco of the GT-R double clutch gearbox with weary eyes.
I have also seen the phrases "not fitting the GT1 engine" and "motosports homologation" in discussions as to why it is not seen in the GT3. Other reason is the added weight, I think.

    Hey Can !!!

The only thing is that it was supposed to be an option when the 997's/997 Turbo's first came out so that delay was way before any issue w/ the DI motor.

But Fair enough, I heard that too.

Any interest on your part for the .2?Or why would you, you have the perfect machine already.

    Hi Gregg,

There is less than zero chance I will replace my Turbo with the 997.2! I am now at a rather sweet spot for that car and have even developed sentimental attachment Smiley. It is a heirloom keeper. LOL

997.2 Turbo will be the best Turbo yet but one, it costs too much to switch, two, improvement over 991.1, especially a modded one, is not great especially if track time with PDK is not a concern, three, I like to buy a car in the second model year, and by that time 991 will be around the corner, and four, ECU mod will take a while longer still.
It's a great car for someone looking for a new Turbo, but there really is no reason to move from 997.1 to it. Especially if one likes the idea of having the GT1 engine. I am 50/50 on how important the GT1 engine is from a consumer's standpoint, but yes, it is heart warming to hear "GT1".
BTW, I think you wrote it's not a good idea to be first on the block with modding 997.2's ECU? I very much agree with that.

For the cost difference, I would much prefer adding something like a Lotus (since I am not as lucky as some people who could add a 430 as a second car Smiley).

Yeah, completely agree. For someone first now first looking, the .2 is a helluva car.  If I was just now looking for a high performance DD, it would be a .2 for me please.

Wouldn't make sense for 997 Turbo owners to trade-in, especially if you're like me & would stick w/ the stick anyway.  Funny, I'm starting to get that same "sentimental attachment" feeling.

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

790 Nm = 583 lb-ft, not alot of torque for tuners to work with, let alone the questions about the new block's ability to handle higher boost/power/ torque.  Therefore, if you want to tune, stick with manual, and/or get a GT1-based 997TT (used).

    Ferdie:

This however is a difference with the PDK since it is much more integrated into the system, albeit certainly replaceable. So apart from the gearbox, a clutch replacement would certainly be more expensive as well.

Very good point. Some more questions for you or anyone who would like to chime in:

    1. Does the PDK dual clutch work the same way as the Manual car's conventional clutch? More specifically, when you exceed the PDK's clutch capacity, does it "slip," or something will actually break?

    2. If there is no slippage, then I assume the PDK clutch doesn't have "protective" ability? In other words, it doesn't slip to protect the individual gears when too much power is applied?

    3. I wonder what that 790 Nm limit refers to, the PDK clutch or the gears?

    Turbo Al,
I agree that if you want to mod the ECU, a Manual 997.2 is the way to go as PDK's 790 Nm is NOT mod friendly at all. A simple stage 2 ECU tune could take you there already.
OTOH, PDK will be so fast from uninterrupted power delivery that you might not need to mod the ECU?

Indeed, I posted that 790Nm figure almost two months ago... I have one memo with this specs but, it can not be posted here.Smiley

PDK in Pana Turbo is almost the same and it can handle 770Nm(with SC on) without any problem.

Well, the engine itself will provide lower tuning limits, as well.  But everyone has to ask himself-do I really want an automatic tranny?  Whether it's a torque converter or a double clutch automatic.  I find them less FUN to drive.

Turbo 997.1 & 997.2 Wheels Comp: Evolution, Revolution or Convolution?

Of course you have to see them in person but here goes:

"Slatty" originals look better, more hefty, more substantial than new units, IM_H_O.

The new wheels seem a bit..., well..., maybe medium-duty and therefore possibly Boxster-ish Smiley.

New wheel radii (radiuses) i.e., spokes, taper toward the center. Old wheel radii taper toward the rim: big psychological difference as far as "substance" is concerned. Smiley

Why is more substance and hefty-osity better? Hummmm..., I dunno..., Could it be because..., ..., uhhhhh..., IT'S A FRICKIN' TURBO!?!

Conclusion: It's a "Convolution" since I like the "Slatty" originals more; especially because they rhyme with "slutty."

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

Man those steel rotors looks even smaller with the new wheels, maybe Porsche's way of nudging customers into getting the PCCB.

After testing the PDK, I positively loved the gearbox, night and day better than the 6-speed and even better than the Tip, but only 20 extra hp? That's not even 5% increase.

But the PDK alone is not even reason for me to switch to the new car, maybe if I have a  6-speed I would jumped for the new gearbox but since I already have the tip, the improvement is minimal. New steering wheel looks ugly, new paddles are even more useless than the stupid tip buttons. New functions from the PCM is nice, but I already have bluetooth and sat radio upgraded to my PCM.

Porsche could have at least change the front end, like the mid cycle 996 refresh, but this time focus on incorporate the fog into the turn signal arm. But I can see the reasoning for refreshing the rear end, as that's the side most car will be able to see, not many can be fast enough to see the front.

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

    LOL MMD,

Would never have thought that you and your OCD would love the more busy look of the old turbo rims more than the less cluttered look of the new turbo rims... :D

But you're right, I also love the old rims better.

The worse feature of the 997 Turbos are the side intakes. Very large and industrial looking, suitable for a commercial vehicle.

Couldn't a designer at Porsche be asked to come up with something elegant? Was it so difficult? Look how they spoil the profile.

The intakes rival the front "golf ball lights" for unpleasant look.

If I were to choose I would prefer to get the new standard rims (the older ones I didn't like at all) and save the cost of the RS wheels (3.500 Euro!) for some other optional extra.

FWIW, they have been inserts for a long time BUT now they *might* look MORE like inserts because of the extra slat?

Looks better without the extra slat, IM_H_O.

However, now that the science of aerodynamics is more refined when applied, the extra slat is probably justified.

959 is just about the perfect 911Turbo, too bad Porsche don't make it like they used to.

I only had one car poster ever, it's a 20+ year old 959, unfortunately that car is quite out of my reach, both in numbers and price, not to mention I can't even drive the god damn thing here.

YEAH  BABY YEAH!  The 959 is all-time gorgeous! I would have loved to be a fly on the all during the design/styling decision-making for that car. I wonder how the excellent result was arrived at. Smiley

Would also be cool to know the pressures Porsche designer/stylists have to endure for today's cars.

Easy answer:  The 959 was conceived at a time when Porsche had not yet heard of the term "financial controlling".
