soon , no ! I thaught I might go for thr 991 Turbo as a fun car, but after my test drive, I came out with the conclusion that that car would suit my needs only in about 10 years time.....as a daily driver. I get a much bigger smile on the my face when I drive a Gt3 Smiley

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

I don't have the information to back this up but I expect the average age of a 911 turbo driver is somewhat higher than that of a GT3 driver. Nothing to do with purchase price, everything to do with what the car sets out to achieve.

I'm 54 and the turbo suits me very well. If I was 10, 15, 20 years younger, I can quite see how the GT3 would be the car of choice and the turbo would not be on my radar.

We're lucky to have the two cars to choose from.

That is what I, and my girlfriend, said as well after our test drive of both Smiley

I am still not convinced about the GT3 all-year-round. I wonder how well it behaves with winter tires on snow. Also, I don't know if one can fit the roof rack on a GT3? Smiley The alternative would be a Carrera S with PDK, flappy paddles, power kit and PCCB. Similar price tag and straight line performance. Less excitement, but probably better all-year-round. Oh, these choices Smiley It is a nice problem to have, as someone use to say...

The Gt3 is not an all-year-round in our climate ( not to me anyway) It would be a second car, for fun , exitment and track. The Turbo would do the job if fine tuned ( different suspension settings, Stage 1 or 2 ecu, exaust etc.., but that would bring the price so high. Not sure about it.

No pics....  I was not organised properly . The sound is less strong then on my sports exhaust, but it 'seemed' a bit better then on the 997.1 Turbo  .. a gentle moderated growl Smiley ( but can not be completely sure as it has been a long time since I have driven a 997.1 )

I fear the GT3 is not an all-year-round for me either. Of course, one Turbo and one GT3 in the garage would solve that Smiley This duality is, however, slightly out of my budget.

I went for a drive up around Hoch Ybrig, Kt. Schwyz, today. The C4S behaves so well on snow and ice. It is real fun driving it on small country and forest roads full of snow Smiley

Regarding the 997.2 Turbo exhaust. It is definitely richer and deeper compared to the 997.1 Turbo, but still no where near the growl and howl of a 997.1/2 Carrera with PSE.

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

I tested the 997-II TT it a while ago and the car is definitely incredibly fast.

I tested it on the Estoril race track and I tried the launch control function.

For the first run, the car accelerated so strongly that my contact lenses were hurting and when I reached 210km/h, my vision was all blurry... So I said, no big deal, let's put some artificial tears and I will be OK. Second run, same pb .... I had to slowdown a bit before the breaking point.

For the 3rd run, a pilot was driving, he attached a € 20 note on the dash board and told us that if we can touch it during the first 50m, it was ours ... none of us (10 people) could reach the bill .... OK if it was a € 500 bill may be I would have tried harder ....

    Stunning, just stunning!  Congratulations!!!

I know you are itching to use the launch control and the paddles...

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

Thanks, the paddles are great, very nice action, but LC must wait for the weather to improve, somewhat icy here at the moment.

Re: Press Release: 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo...

Thanks all for your comments. I like to bring the exterior colour into the car to tie the two together but there are a lot of options and it's knowing when to stop. In my case, I restricted it so that the aluminium of the PDK lever, door handles and side air vents would themselves contrast with the painted elements. These are firmly in the "zero resale value" category, so spending, say, $1500 to have the PCM surround in body colour is a step too far for me.

As for PDK and paddles, there are two aspects I need to get used to. The car will shift down when you come to a halt at a stop light or junction even in manual mode and it's easy to get into the mindset of driving an automatic and forget to then shift up especially if your "daily driver" is a conventional automatic. A few times, I've asked myself "why is the engine making so much noise" and realised it was because I'd forgotten to change gear...  I'll get used to it, only 200 miles so far. I think the auto mode will be useful in traffic though.

The other aspect is a distinct delay between pressing the accelerator and the car taking off. I think this is down to the need to provide very controllable low speed manoeuvering for parking and so on. You don't have the option which you do in a manual of feathering the clutch and when starting off, the car needs a more decisive throttle input than a manual would to get going. Again, it's just something I will get used to.

I can certainly understand the manual will remain the transmission of choice for the best driving experience but for real world day-to-day driving, the PDK is a great development.

Congrats!!! what a great Christmas present!!!

Ha, certainly understand your statement about knowing where to stop; that's a HUGE challenge Smiley

Thanks for the feedback on day-to-day PDK usage, it's what we need to hear. We can all agree that PDK is great for spirited driving, but that doesn't automatically make it a joy to live with so this is good to hear.

    take my congratulations!

why didn't you opt for Turbo Aero Kit that is very recommended by Porsche?

Also - could you pls list your options to see... I am a little bit in dilemma what options are worthy and what are worthless ones.... could you advise in your opinion?
