Re: 2009 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

A news flash during the race indicated that Kimi will be investigated, after the race finished, for hitting Vettel on the start straight.  Could cost him a place or two....

    Anyone heard the outcome yet?

Especially with the prospect of Massa never driving for Ferrari again Smiley

"Raikkonen was investigated by race stewards following a coming together with Vettel at the start of the race but the officials decided not to take any action." from BBC site.

With all that went on, Kimi's incident was deemed a triviality.

Re: 2009 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

I am so surprised Alonso hasn't start whining yet about the team or the penalty.

The whole world knows Alonso is dying to drive for Ferrari, but he is still under contract to Renault this year.

Is Ferrari really to take on Alonso and his baggage? I see Ferrari fielding the test driver Luca Badoer for the rest of the season and who knows, he might earn himself a full time ride.

Badoer will be 39 years old soon and hasn't been in competitive racing since 1999 when he spent one year with Minardi.

He also holds the dubious distinction of being the driver who has competed in the most Grands Prix (48) without scoring a single point. Hardly championship material!

I don't know if Alonso has started whining but of course you couldn't wait to start bashing him. I guess you have become a Max Mosley supporter after this decision?

About the Badoer bit, I think you are quite right about his chances of becoming a full time driver, in fact I've heard that him and Eddie Irvine are going to be the Scuderia drivers for next year.

Massa no longer in danger, but eye damage worrying

A doctor says Felipe Massa's life is no longer in danger, but that the Ferrari driver sustained an eye injury in his crash which could affect his future in Formula One.

Robert Veres, the doctor who performed surgery on Massa after his crash, said Monday that Massa was stable and remained sedated "to protect his brain."

Veres said Massa had suffered damage to his left eye but didn't "know the quality of this damage."

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemelo said that Ferrari's first priority was Massa's health but that the Italian team doesn't "want to wait too long" to decide on finding a driving replacement.

    From Associated Press

Read LdiM's comment, very pragmatic given the gravity of Massa's condition.

It's goodbye Massa, hello Alonso? I would think that Vettel could be a candidate too.

Re: 2009 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

I stand corrected, I think Ferrari might go with Michael Schumacher instead Badoer, why shop outside when there is already someone on the payroll? I completely forgot about THE STIG!!!

gangajas: It's a well known fact around here that I am not a Alonso fan boy, I do not like his attitude on and off the course, as a matter of fact I have met a quite F1 drivers 3 years ago in a Shanghai hotel lobby, Alonso was the only one who didn't sign autograghs, in fact he pushed his way out of the crowd quite rudely and was quite distasteful towwards those chinese fans. Rubens spent the most time signing and chatting just for comparison. Anyway this time his team made the mistake that cause Alonso's race, and on top of that suspended for the next one on home soil, with his past record on complaints, he is surprisingly silent on this matter.

It's is also a well known fact around here that I am a Max basher, so why would I change my view towards Max?

Re: 2009 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

Hungary is known for its great neurosurgeons and neurologists, so that is a good thing for Massa. An 'eye injury' could mean anything, so don't count him out of F1 yet.

Horrible time I'd say. There is absolutly nothing good for Schumi to come back to. Ferrari will let their test driver finish the season and then sign Vettel or Alonso for 2010. Santander's contract with Mclaren is ending at the end of the season and they are well inclined to pay for Alonso's €26 salery for Ferrari to have him as a driver. If Ferrari are thinking more long term than the best driver on the market for them to sign is Vettel. Rosberg will most likely leave Williams for Mclaren he has matured and proved that he's ready to drive a top car.

It wouldn't really be a come-back, would it?

Ferrari desperately needs a driver who is capable of helping the engineers understand and eliminate the car's problems, and maybe save a few race points during the rest of this season.

For Schumacher it's not so much of a real extension of his carear as a means of adding to his "nest-egg", like all those other senior citizens working at WalMart. Smiley

    Squeezing out Kimi next year?

Not many 'technical' drivers left around that's still in good shape and has the speed to be competitive, Schumy is one of the best of those.

Most of the current drivers are the video game generation, they grew up on electronic aids and probably have a hard time explaining how the cars react to the engineers. Schumy however is old enough, experienced enough and good enough that a few laps from him is worth more than a full season of testing by someone else.

+1 but he won't come back. Yet i think he is already involved still with Ferrari and testing the cars...

Hope Massa has a full recovery soon!! That was quite the freak incident after the F2 death :s

Sorry, but that is a ridiculous thought. Vettel or Alonso are known for their knowledge and effort that is put into the car´s development and correlation with engineers. I´d say, even more than previous ones, the current or upcoming driver generations do know about the importance of car development and knowledge of technical background.

Not many drivers have had a successful return to F1, as I am thinking about drivers as Mansell or even Prost who´s advantage after one year off was the dominance of his Williams racecar back then. The level and progress in F1 is so high that one would really be outstanding to succeed nowadays. If Schumacher successfully makes it, I am certainly impressed.

Don't forget the great Niki Lauda, my favourite driver!

Comeback and third title with McLaren-TAG in 1984.

But for me it will be a mistake for MS to return. He can only lose some of what he built.

German newspaper FAZ and carmagazine AMS have both confirmed that Michael Schumacher will fill Massa´s gap in the upcoming races. First appearance will, contrary to other previous articles, in Valencia.
