    Re: BMW X1

We considered the Tiguan as well and to me, it was a huge disappointment. Tried the petrol TSI with manual, one of the worst transmissions and far from the typical convenient Volkswagen sensation. There were some other minor issues that I would´ve accepted in a Kia but not in a much more expensive VW, such as the engine lid lacking a gas spring to open.

The X3 initially had some very cheap materials visible in the interior, other than that it appears to be a very reliable car. Its premium over the RAV4 or Tiguan is considerable but, in my eyes, quite noticeable in its current state. Even the comfort has improved and with those four- and six-cylinder diesel engines it is quite an agile one. In comparison to Q5 or Tiguan it does show its age a little bit.

A 1.4 liter petrol engine is never going to be ideal for a car of this size and weight, even if it is a turbocharged TSI.  The 2.0 liter 170 hp TDI is on the other hand quite a little torque monster.  Smiley
And I say that as a former acute diesel-sceptic and VW-sceptic.  Smiley

After 11,000km I can assure you that you don't need to raise the engine lid often anyway. The windshield washer reservoir must be quite large, I guess.  That's the only thing that has needed any topping up or other attention so far. Smiley

    Re: BMW X1

IMO Tiguan can't be compared with X1 , like X1 can't be compared with Q5. Tiguan looks like a bigger Golf, materials inside are cheap, and price is if Im correct arrount 30.000 EUR. X1 won't cost a lot more, it will be between 30.000 and 40.000 EUR. Q5 is in higher level, is bigger and price is much higher too. X1 is small city car for everyday and got abilities to drive in every weather condition and on every road. Also 2.0d 177 hp is very efficient, according to people who was already driving it, avarage fuel consumption is under 6 l .

Here is official teaser video of the X1:

    KresoF1:

My good friend owns 320d with 177hp and fuel consumption is above 8L/100km no matter how he drivers. Below 6L? Only on LSD...

I don't know how he drives, but 8.x l / 100 km had my ex 530dA.  With 730d I easily get 9 - 10 l / 100 km fuel consumption. So your friend must have very heavy foot or is something wrong with his car, maybe is old and doesn't have ED tehnology, but I doubt that ED makes 2 l / 100 km difference.

Also you can read about first drive here:

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/motors/ken_gibson/2465107/BMWs-new-SAV-has-X-Factor.html

    Copy / paste from article:

And it is quick. There will be two versions of the 2litre turbo-diesel, one 177bhp and the other a hefty 204bhp which does 0-60 in 7.3 seconds and has a top speed of 138mph, plus a 1.8litre diesel.

One disappointment was the noise level from the 204bhp engine. It sounded too coarse for the BMW image.

But drivers will be very happy with the fuel economy, a highly impressive 44mpg, which few compact 4x4s can match.

    44 MPG converted to KM/L (L/100KM) is 18.71 KM/L (5.34 L/100KM).

     Another review by Autocar magazine:

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/FirstDrives/BMW-X1-X1/240372/

BMW puts the xDrive23d’s 0-62mph acceleration at 7.3sec, yet in real world driving it feels even quicker. It’s also frugal, averaging almost 45mpg.

    45 MPG converted to KM/L (L/100KM) is 19.13 KM/L (5.23 L/100KM).

So X1 should easily reach 6l avarage fuel consumption. Ofcourse when driving normally.

    Atzporsche:

another model to ruin BMW name in the long run. It's going to be carbage.. just like the X5/X6 have been. They are the least reliable BMWs in the lineup. X3 had too much plastic. X5 has a GM tranny... So sad to see BMW bring out cars that will hurt their image in the long run

I've owned various BMWs and I've driven a lot of them. 1 thing I can tell you is that BMW gained a lot of my respect. I am very happy that ****** Chris Bangle has left, the results of that are very visible in present day.

I agree on the plastic interior issue and I must say the seats on the new 7series look a little cheesy, but it looks SO much better than its older model. Modern bmws interiors do look a little boring, a little too much business.  Also the 5 series GT is an abomination. But calling them carbage is an insult to BMW imo. Smiley

I also think that there should have been a BMW M7 way before any BMW SUV with a ///M badge ever existed.

the X1 will be a very cool car ( as long as it wont resemble its dog looking concept version too much)

    Re: BMW X1

Ziga, his 320d is barely one year old with 50000km on clock. He drives a lot and car is having this fuel consumption from day one. Only if he drives 120km/h in sixth ge gets low consumption. In fact I know several BMW 320d/330dA/530dA owners and nobody(!) had that low fuel consumption...

I had 123d manual for a weekend one month ago to try and fuel consumption on 620km trip was 9.1L according to board computer. I was driving fast BUT; much slower then with my R8 4.2 FSI(BTW, my R8 fuel consumption is around 16L)...

    Re: BMW X1

I have a few friends that get simmilar results Shakal mentioned on same cars. Cars are import though... but it shouldn't make a difference.

A friend has 207RC and his car consumes 10L in city driving. Not relevant really here but still worth mentioning

I dont like it, its just to "petit" for me. A SUV is a strenght symbol and needs to stand upright  on the floor. This car looks crouched!

    My thoughts exactly. Smiley

If I want a SUV, I want a "real" SUV. Anything smaller than a Q5 is ridiculous if you ask me. Tiguan, X3 and even the GLK surely are all nice cars, but the proportions just don't fit. X1 reminds me more of a Fiat Panda Cross. Smiley

Q5 is just right and of course the bigger cars like X5, Touareg, Cayenne, M-class etc. Smiley

Yupp - I like the Q5 too! Great proportions, need design!

    Re: BMW X1

i think its way to crouched too as Lars said, the stance is just not right they should've made it a bit higher at the front  or something.

This isn't SUV, but for example car for a wife which is small enough for driving it in city and is useable in every weather condition... BMW call it SAV - Sports Activity Vehicle ...

I had understood the reference to a raised housewife's car. Smiley I should now explain that "Fallen Woman" was a genteel Victorian expression for a prostitute.
Maybe I should have written 1950s MB 190 SL instead of Golf Cabrio.  (Does the name Rosemarie Nitbritt mean anything?) Smiley

The Q5 is a very beautiful SUV with almost perfect proportions. The Tiguan is ugly and boring in my opinion but my wife's best friend (actually her husband) bought one, so I should shut up.

A Q5 with the supercharged V6 engine from the S4...this would be quite a treat.
