We considered the Tiguan as well and to me, it was a huge disappointment. Tried the petrol TSI with manual, one of the worst transmissions and far from the typical convenient Volkswagen sensation. There were some other minor issues that I would´ve accepted in a Kia but not in a much more expensive VW, such as the engine lid lacking a gas spring to open.
The X3 initially had some very cheap materials visible in the interior, other than that it appears to be a very reliable car. Its premium over the RAV4 or Tiguan is considerable but, in my eyes, quite noticeable in its current state. Even the comfort has improved and with those four- and six-cylinder diesel engines it is quite an agile one. In comparison to Q5 or Tiguan it does show its age a little bit.
