I can understand most of the objective results.  Are there any interesting subjective observations made that are worth translating?

    Grant

Kreso has already mentioned that Horst von Saurma did not precisely pinpoint the handling advantages of the dynamic engine mount, but he did say that the relatively smooth running of the engine both at idle and throughout its rev range are in indication of its efficacy. The driving wheels are less inclined to tramp during heavy acceleration.

Where the suspension is concerned, the new GT3 has inherited the genes of the 997 GT2, whose production has now come to an end, so the car now runs better than its immediate predecessor not only in a straight line but also in corners.

HvS cryptically says that the choice of set-ups for Normal and Sport settings of the PASM system are now more easy to comprehend, meaning that the set-ups now really do fit the different requirements of street and track better than in the past. He mentions in this context that during warmup or in traffic there are no signs of shaking (presumeably of the power unit) or of resonance. (I suspect that he should really have attributed these improvements to the dynamic engine mounts though).

The optimized aerodynamics make straight line running up to the top speed of 310 km/h more easily accessible, improving the car out of all recognition.
Where a comfortable (Autobahn) cruising speed might for various reasons have been about 220 km/h up until now, the GT3 now makes a base speed of 250 km/h easily and comfortably possible.

Initial diasappointment at the lack of a PDK transmission is tempered by the facts that the function and operation of the manual transmission leave nothing to be desired, and that the additional weight of the PDK would have run counter to the highest priority of a GT3, keeping down weight.

The driving dynamics of the car come in for a lot of praise from HvS.

    Markus,

Cup+ N0 are marginally better for dry track BUT, also not so good on the wet. Same thing happened to current M3 in Supertest. BMW equiped the car with Cup+ and while pretty fast on dry track wet track results were not good at all.

Just, IMHO GT3 is NOT wet road car anyway...

KresoF1, can you shoot me a private message so that I can repsond. I can't figure out how to send a message; all I can see are responses and received messages.

That is interesting. Did not know that the GT2 production has stopped already Smiley

I would be really interested whether there will be a GT2 FL next year (close to end of production of 997). The timing of facelifts in case of the 996 series makes a FL for the 997GT2 fairly likely (996GT2 Mk2 was launched about 12 months before end of production of the 996 series, right?). But then, finanical considerations and the market environment might prevent Porsche from "investing" in the FL of a car that sells in so small numbers Smiley

Re: 997.2 GT3 Sport Auto Supertest

Fritz, thanks for the scan and the excllent summary Smiley

The bit about using the GT2 set up for straight line stability and how effective it is rings a bell here, I could not believe how stable the GT2 is at 320kph, quite uncanny and alien to other 911s...

I noted that the frontal area and Cd of the GT3 is virtually identical to the GT2 giving it the same CdA of 0.66 - I would imagine that with this much drag the acceleration over ~250kph is going to suffer (particularly compared to the last super slippery GT3 which I know (even the RS version) was GPS clocked at 332kph by Flat 6 magazine)

The downforce numbers are pretty impressive and apparently at 300kph they rise to 40kg front and 70kg rear !

I read about the GT2 production ending in 911 & Porsche world and wondered if were true ? It would be interesting to know how many were made and future plans for MK2 version ?

Yes..a FL GT2 need to exist in way to have no conflict with Turbo S power figure.

If they made a Turbo S with 530 Hp i think there will be a GT2 with at least 550 HP,what a  pity that after a few months the 991 C2 will come..Smiley

I think, the November dates relate to the dealer presentations. The car should be shown at the IAA Smiley

Re: 997.2 GT3 Sport Auto Supertest

Like the color.  Problem is that there's nothing to indicate to date that it'll be an option or even available as PTS. Upside if you can get is that it'll boost resale value given that it'll be pretty rare and there are a lot of folks that like this color.  I'll be bummed if Porsche offers it to ROW and not US.

I don't think the ROW will get this colour as an option - they're not offering it at the moment at way. Perhaps they're saving bright(er) colours for the RS?

997.2 Carrera appeared in spring 2008 and production July 2008, so 991 carrera models should be around the same time in 2011. I don't think any sooner than that, with 991 Turbo a few months later.

    Yes,i think the same,Summer 2011...

but i've heard half an year before..,anyway they need space also for the Cayenne II..and we are at half 2009,so there is only next year, and i don't think they take out from the cap two all new car in an year..so or rumors are wrong or 2010 will be a 20 months long yearSmiley

Regarding the 991TT, the 997 TT was out two years after the 997 C2..so if 991 C2 will come in 2011,991 TT will be here around 2013,and if rumors are true there is something wrong also here..Smiley

I think that a good solution to jump all this question is the one that MKSGR make me a present and give me for free his GT2SmileySmiley

Unless it's a stroker kit, that would be a simply insane amount of power from a normally aspirated 3.8
