BTW, we had a great time this week-end: turbosteff (a member here) brought his Scuderia and I brought the GT2. Then we had some extensive test drives over several hundred kms on the Autobahn and on the race track. I will write the summary as soon as I have some time. GT-R ? Meanwhile I've encountered 3 or 4 of them at the 'Ring (cars with UK numberplates and CZ numberplates). I was really curious what they would be able to do on NoS in the hands of skilled amateurs. Unfortunately the drivers obviously were not familiar with NoS - hence rather boring encounters for me.

Considering how many laps Suzuki-san has done over a period of months at the Ring trying to optimize the GTR, those cars should have been able to show their drivers the way around it. Smiley

LoL - Playstation still does not compare to the real world Smiley

As for Suzuki-san: recently I had a quite interesting chat with one of the most experienced 'Ring instructors (> 1,000 laps per season) who knows him quite well. He said: "Don't get fooled by the looks of the guy - in reality he's a Eifelaner" Smiley Then he described Suzuki's stunts at the Caroussel exit in detail - unbelievable- he easily gets airbone there with the GT-R with all four wheels Smiley This guy really must drive like a devil Smiley

Frankly, I don't doubt that he is a very good driver. Smiley

Smiley If you'd  listen to the chats at the parking lot near the NoS entrance on a sunny Sunday you'd know that the Eifel is full of magicians Smiley

That GT-R is a real bargain. Where else do you get such a power for the money.

It really has to question the other manufacturers why they ask for more the double putting almost the same power on the street. Ok - the design might be a bit more expensive, but my architect always tells me "a beautiful house doesnt cost more as an ugly one" - so might be the same for the car?

Next time it will work out fine Smiley

BTW, on the track the Scuderia surprises with a very reliable character. While very light (and probably a bit less "glued" to the track than the GT2, in particular at the front) the Scuderia feels a bit like a kart: excellent and very easy to read feed-back from the suspension. The smooth and yet powerful engine makes it very easy to exploit the car's potential when coming out of some tight corners Smiley This car could definitively be driven quick on the NBR (actually, HvS already proved it Smiley)

Few use the press / their own marketing department to spread the "magic", though...

My experience tells me that quality (nearly) always has a certain price (which should be the case as people will be willing to pay a higher price if the quality is right, right?) Smiley

Somehow I agree but somehow it is pure emotions you are paying with the extra. In case of the GT-R I guess it is a very solid car with a high quality (I have never been sitting in one so I can just imagine), but emotions are probably reduced to driving where the others give you driving and image emotions?

Re: Nissan GT-R test in German AMS

Even the fat slow Euro spec GTRs seem faster than the German competition. Auto Bild must be bribed by Nissan. And since it is not Sport Auto the results are irrelevant.

A perfect drive package: The GT-R nails its passengers into the seats.

    Nissan GT-R

If you are entering the Nordschleife in anything less than a GT2 or Scud and you see one of these behind you, it might be a good idea to pull over and check your tire pressures and avoid the ignominy of being beaten by a Nissan.

Re: Nissan GT-R test in German AMS

    AUM,

I find Auto Bild comparison pretty interesting and strange at the same time. Why? Look for the same cars in comparison on wet track in Auto Bild Sportcars edition few issues back.

R8 5.2 FSI is faster on the track as manual then as R Tronic for example.

BUT, let's stop here to avoid discussion about different cars.

Final question for all GT-R fans including you is: Do you really belive that GT-R is faster on the Ring then 997 GT2?

Please, only YES or NO. My answer is NO.

Re: Nissan GT-R test in German AMS

No. I would expect the GT2 to be faster, it has a huger power to weight advantage.

But the GTR has proven it can corner faster than the GT2 and Scud, and that is truly astonishing.

BTW I am not a GTR fan. I am a car fan.

And for the record my favourite cars are:

    1. 997.2 GT3

    2. GT2

    3. Scud

The GTR does not feature in my top ten.
