Re: Panamera - First Production Pictures

He meant the whole offroad package of the car, not just the little things like you mentioned. All the heavy duty suspension pieces, suspension mounts, braces, etc.

Those extra weight can be all put into one 'road-package' and let the customer decides whether they want it or not, instead of pushing it down our throat like right now.

From early information, the next gen Cayenne/ Toureg is like 600lb lighter if not more, which means Porsche has already done the above, taking out all the un-needed weight for 99% of it's customers. It will be more like the X5/ML class of SUV where light duty off-road, like dirt tracks and snow is what most customers wants.

Taking that much wieght off the truck will have a big impact on performance, handling and fuel economy. Win/Win situation for Porsche.

Yes this is what I meant, thanks!

The standard cayenne is already too off-road for a large % of owners that use it on road, little snow or a muddy field.

A good example of what can be omitted is the reduction box(transfer case) that "urban off-roaders" never use. This, plus  rear diff lock, extendable anti-roll bars etc could be offered as extras at say, a 2 stage off-road packages.

In this way the basic car will be cheaper and lighter and fleet emissions and C.A.F.E. figures will be reduced since the large majority of buyers will opt for the on-road spec.

I still think that with the introduction of SUVs, limousines are practically obsolete.

There is still the 'corporate' market - which is still an important part of the equation. A lot of senior execs in major companies still need limos as their chauffeur cars. Many also still want similar cars for their family use - although some have moved to SUVs Smiley

Tha SUV market share has grow in the past few years, but it hasn't killed the sedan one. I see more 3 and 5 -series than thei equivallent SUVs. There way more sedans than SUV on the raod, and it's not going to change.

I, for myself, hate SUV. They are useless, more expensive and less fun than their equivallent sedans or estates (breaks) versions. Take an A6 estate. Far cheaper that a Q7, better handling and better looks, less fuel consumption, easier to park...

Same story with an X5 and the equivallent 5-series. Same story with the X3 and the equivallent 3-series.Same story with a Q5 and  the equivallent A4.

Yes, you light have a bigger boot, but an A6 estate's boot is titanesc. If you have three children, than an SUV might be useful. Otherwise, it's a complete waste of money and energy (gaz).

Re: Panamera - First Production Pictures

Plus there is the market for premium taxis for airport transfers etc... I'm sure many people (like me) book a car specifying that it should be Merc E Class or equivalent....

if you could order a cayenne turbo taxi...would you still specify merc E-class ?

we are referring more to the cost no option world of power luxo suv's and luxo limo's.

a cayenne turbo makes a panamera obsolete in my view as well.

Of course, I agree - but I don't know of any taxi companies in the UK or elsewhere that runs a fleet of Cayenne Turbos Smiley Obviously, too expensive for their business model...

Re: Panamera - First Production Pictures

This is all about personal choice isn't it?  I could see myself with a Panamera but never with a Cayenne. Just seems wrong in the city and the Autobahn rather than on a farm.

And I like being lower rather than high - more feel for what the car is doing.

I haven't seen the reviews (regarding road feel anyway) yet so I must take a look.

I think the design is not bad - IMHO the bum is an inevitable consequence it it being a stretch 911 in overall look and we will get used to it, maybe with some minor tweaks.
