Historical Photos

I am starting this thread to gradually post historical motorsport photos, from a modest collection that I built circa 2001. The photos are from various Internet sources - such as forums - which I never noted, regrettably. They are also uncategorised. In fact, I thought the best way to post them would be like this, selecting a few at a time, as it is unlikely I will ever take the time to properly sort them :-)

If you have similar material, please, do post it here.

The original thread, to thank for starting this, is Spyderidol's (Porsche 917 specfic) 40 Years ago the Birth of the 917.

This is actually a photo I took, of a framed Jackie Stewart autograph. It is at the Col De Bretaye Restaurant, on the ski slopes of Villars, Switzerland.

First of all, what a great thread. Its been great looking through the pics you've already posted and I look forward to more. The image I've posted below, while not of any on-track action, certainly has considerable historical interest. It is a letter written by the Marquis DePortago just prior to the fateful 1957 Mille Miglia, discussing how Enzo Ferrari was forcing both he and Taruffi to drive new 4-liter cars, and expressing his misgivings. I don't speak spanish, and had it fairly poorly translated for me by a friend in spain, so, just throwing it out there, if any of you can translate, it might be cool to know exactly what it says.
