    2009 Monaco F1 Grand Prix

    Well, well, well. Smiley

The continuing saga of next year's rule changes (creating a two-tier competition) has Toyota and Ferrari threatening to pull out of F1. Smiley

Meanwhile, Rubens Barrichello is warning that he will leave Brawn Mercedes if the team favours Jenson Button. Smiley But Brawn Mercedes has tried to assuage his anger by reassuring him that this is not the case and that they would only favour one driver and/or use team orders if there was a mathematical impossibility for the other driver to win the Drivers' Championship.

It'll be interesting to see how the cars cope with the very different challenges of the Monaco circuit. Smiley I think we could see Red Bull and Toyota give Brawn a much tougher fight on this circuit. Smiley

Here's looking forward to a great race Smiley

Ferrari has stated its 'threat' more forcefully this time:

No Ferrari participation in F1 unless the rules are changed

I do feel sorry for Rubens and its probable that the 3 to 2 stop strategy in Spain that Jenson changed to has just wound him up a bit .. Rubens seems such a nice guy  , he always makes time for a interview just before the race's begin...Good luck to him in Monaco , should be interesting...

Re: 2009 Monaco F1 Grand Prix

I don't feel sorry for Rubens at all - he should stop whining and drive the hell out of his car. This is the only way to gain respect otherwise he will be very soon in the supporting role again for Button for him to close the bag in 2009. (I like his watches thow....as much as Massa's )

Re: 2009 Monaco F1 Grand Prix

I think Monaco is going to belong to one of the RBR boys.  Mark is very quick there and we all know how good young Vettel is.

Re: 2009 Monaco F1 Grand Prix

We're going to see some very aggressive fuel loads in qualification to maximise grid position IMO. Overtaking is always hard at Monaco plus the cars without KERS may have a bigger relative disadvantage here.

The latest rumour/inside info seems to be that Ferrari, Toyota and Red Bull are considering creating their own breakaway championship:

Good for Ferrari, Toyota and Red Bull, I imagine Renault will be on the fence to join them, MacLaren secretly  wants to join.

40mil pound cap is definitely not realistic, they probably spent that much on a rear wing.

I sure hope Max stand firm and these teams do break up and form another series, somehow I think Bernie would also abandon Max, because he know the marketing power of having Ferrari in a series.

Re: 2009 Monaco F1 Grand Prix

What amazes me is that Max Mosley - despite his reputation being so badly tarnished by the S&M scandal - still appears to have the power to force through these changes upon F1 before he stands down next year (at least, that's what he said he would be doing during and after his legal battle).

Do you remember how he was persona non grata at Monaco last year? Prince Albert of Monaco did not want him seen there nor did the ruling family of Bahrain want him at their GP race in 2008. This year he appears to be fully rehabilitated.

My view remains that, what he does in his private life is his own business BUT, once it was uncovered, it did affect how people perceived him and, when someone occupies a very high profile public post that needs to be respected, one really needs to be above reproach. Sadly, that's the shallow, superficial, hypocritical nature of today's world so, like it or not, anyone in a public post has to dance to that tune.

I do think he wants to make one big parting gesture before he goes - as his final legacy to F1 - a nice big V-sign to the teams. It's very clever and neatly takes advantage of the global economic recession and Honda's withdrawal from F1. This is despite the FOTA members recently agreeing to various cost reduction plans following Honda's withdrawal.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was determined to exact such revenge. And that is why Ferrari suspects, rightly in my view, that Mosley is involved in excessive meddling with the rules.

Remember Bill Clinton? He held a much much higher post than Max Mosley and he got away with his indiscretion. So new rules apply nowadays.

Re: 2009 Monaco F1 Grand Prix

I assume the F1 team principals have already had their morning meeting on board the yacht of Renault F1 team boss, Flavio Briatore, in Monaco. Smiley

They are due to meet Max Mosley this afternoon for another round of talks... Let's see if anything comes out of it. Smiley Smiley

Only 7 days till the 29 May 2009 deadline for 2010 entries to be submitted. There's a reasonable chance that the major names may pull out of F1 to form their own breakaway championship. F1 fans may say that we've seen this kind of drama before many times... Smiley

Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, Toyota, Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso on one side.

Brawn, Williams, Force India, BMW Sauber on the other side ... to be joined in future by Prodrive, Lola, Aston Martin(?) and various others

This disunity between the FOTA members is why Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone can outmanoeuvre the F1 teams every time adopting a 'divide and rule' tactic. Smiley

According to the ITV F1 website, Bernie Ecclestone may be suing Ferrari for breach of contract since he claims that they agreed to participate in F1 till 2012 at least Smiley

Anyone else think Eddie Jordan was a complete d**k?  I though DC was very composed in the interview... I always thought EJ was okay, but for some reason this interview made me change opinion of him almost immediately.  I could never work for the guy that's ofr sure...

Yeah! I really enjoyed watching qualification today.

Button on pole, Ferrari are quick again, should be a great race.

Lewis really dropped the ball today.  It shows how unloved he is, as current World Champion, that so few people really care about the mishaps and misfortune that have been coming his way.

Winning people's respect is not the same as winning people's hearts

Re: 2009 Monaco F1 Grand Prix

It'll be more interesting if KERS gives Kimi the lead at the first corner.

Otherwise, unless it rains (unlikely) or we have several safety cars (possible), it will be another Monaco procession....more an exhibition than a race.

Doesn't KERS not kick in until 60mph? ...at which point Jenson should be in a position to defend the first corner...

Re: 2009 Monaco F1 Grand Prix

The big unknown for anyone on the track is when/if other drivers elsewhere on the track will hit the armco barriers resulting in a safety car intervention. For obvious reasons, this is more of a problem at Monaco. So, nothing is certain

Great run form Jenson! Unbelievable how consistent he drives and how consistent that car performs.

Kind of funny to listen to Norbert Haug when he more and more explains that this is a "Mercedes".
